Battlefield 3 Beta Client Mirror
If you don't want to burn through your bandwidth on Origin, we've got a local download now for the Battlefield 3 beta client; our download page also includes links to local ISPs that have it mirrored (just Internode and GameArena for now) that we'll update as more of them come online.
The beta is only open for eligible pre-order customers at present, but if you want to get a head start for when it goes open for all (reportedly tomorrow night at 10pm AEST), grab it now. Check it all out over on our Battlefield 3 beta client download page. We've also got a 7zip-compressed version which is heaps smaller. The beta looks like it is kicking off strong and there's a bunch of local servers to play on. I'm sure everyone without a beta key is holding on tight until it opens up completely, so stay cool! Please also note that this download is an unsupported package of the Beta Installer files that are intended to be obtained via the EA Origin client so a bit of manual fiddling is required to get them playing nice with your local Origin install. |

hehe, I was playing the early access last night on US servers. Ping wasn't bad and the game is sexy as s***! See you all on there soon!
No vehicles though. So it's kind of smallish map played is the same way as UT 2003's assault mode where you have to complete 2 objectives to move on to the next point... kinda like BC2 :P... some might say exactly like BC2. Meh, back to playing it |

Origin installs it like a game. Default (which I'll have to change) is in program files/Origin Games or something.
Maybe you have to start downloading it for it to create the required directory |

i've been playing it for the last two hours. it's quite ordinary - and they recycled a bunch of sounds and animations - it's almost identical to the newest Medal of Honor (on foot, anyway - haven't tried the vehicle maps)

For those who extract the archive but Origin doesn't show 'ready to install':
Close / log out of Origin. Go to the folder that you extracted the archive into, for example C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games and rename the Battlefield 3 Beta directory to something else ("archivebackup" or something). Start / log in to Origin. BF3 Beta will be 'ready to download' or something like that. Start the download, it'll be 'preparing' then actually start downloading some files. Once it starts grabbing files, stop/pause the download and check the folder that you found in step 3 of the instructions (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games) and see what folders Origin has created. Check the folder it has created: you should be able to move the extracted files from "archivebackup" to whatever folder Origin has created. Once you do that, fire up Origin again, and it should now find the files and be 'ready to install'. I'll normally take a little while to startup because its reading the directory and finding all these new files it didn't know it had before. |

I have BF3 on my games list in Origin but i purchased it on the 27th. I have downloaded the beta and followed the steps but i have no install option.

But that's exactly what I wanted Trauma. BC2 was so damn good, and I've never played a FPS as much as BC2 besides CSS. It had teamwork, destruction, guns and fun. Also, his complaints about the map aren't really justified when the point of that map IS close combat. They've got maps that are massive, open and jets flying everywhere. Then they've got close combat maps for more surreal combat.

Once it goes open you should be able to just plug it all in - but we're not sure yet how the open beta is going to roll (ie, we don't know if you'll get a key, or what). So we'll possibly have to revisit the instructions then. |

I live in hope that this game will be successful enough to encourage more game developers back to the PC platform - I cringe at the number of shamelessly s***** console ports, and in lots of cases, not even ports - just no game for the PC!

Just wanted to say I am rubbish at this game, much like I am at BF:BC2. I've been playing more of a support role by replenishing health and ammo and hanging back and being a mobile spawn point. Sucks that the defibrillator needs to be unlocked, but I enjoy the multi-stage nature of the Metro map as you move from the park to underground subway then to inner-city Paris. Love all the details like parachuters and planes in the air; the random rockets firing from point A or B. Considering how rubbish I am at killing anyone I'm glad I get points for squad mates spawning on me; supplying "suppression fire" when I fire at the vicinity of enemies and, of course, dropping packs for teammates.

Caspian is available - though it is passworded. the password is 'Appletini' on the EU/UK 64 player servers. You can play one round, then get booted - one would presume this is so that more people get a bash at Conquest mode. I've no idea what the US password is now - it seems it changes every 12 hours. |

The terrible thing with that video is it happens in that section of the map very, very frequently in many different locations. It's not all it's cracked up to be in terms of getting 'woo free kills' or anything either. Half the time it ends up getting you killed as you get stuck and start to fall through the floor and spazzing out :(

heh @ Origin being smashed. I don't think I've ever seen Steam go down ever.ZIt does happen occasionally good sir. Steam most notably gets hammered during the steam sales such that sometimes installing is impossible at ~10kb/s. Or launching/syncing to the cloud or just logging in takes half an hour :( |

Heh. Just out of curiosity I fired up origin.
Logged in no issue. Battelog had no page load errors when checking my soldier stats or friends stats etc. Could it possibly be anything to do with people not having installed and ghosting their folders? |

So, thoughts on Battlelog? I say it's s***, cause of the whole weird ass stuff everywhere.It's actually pretty cool. and it makes alt-tabbing once in the game very easy. Joining friends easy, seeing persistent stats including yours and friends easy. Able to browse the internet while waiting for a slot/queue etc. I thought the same thing a few days ago but after getting used to it, it's actually a good thing. There are certainly bigger issues with the game (such as the map being pointless and no "overview" style map) and the huge game breaking clipping issues. |

I can't get the f*****g game to launch. I'm in Battlelog, it says "Joining server," I see bf3.exe appear in my task manager and then disappear again and nothing happens. I've restarted Origin, restarted my browser and restarted my PC. What the f***.

did you load properly through origin or copy the ausgamers 'preload' ? seems some people are having issues with that ghosted copy from what I gathered keeping tabs on some posts here.

I used the 'preload' and didn't have any issues. I started the download through Origin, then paused it (you should probably close origin now, though I didn't) placed all the files into the folder Origin created and then restart Origin and resume the download. It should be at 99% so you just wait it out and then install it.

As an early start beta (and loaded through origin) even if I do the update it tries to download the whole client again. (I can play no problems). It's something broken with that update thing. Warning to everyone not to hit 'check for updates'. It's a known problem on the forums I believe as I noticed other people reporting the same thing. |

Just confirming that downloading the beta client from here will save you downloading it through origin.
Took me like 20 restarts of origin to get the store to work though, so expect some pain... |

Well, after playing about 10 rounds with some mates, I have to admit, the Battlelog grows on you. Having battle report after each round is pretty sweet, and being able to see heaps of data is cool.
Game is sexy. It's fun, it's brutal and it's quick paced. Customisation is amazing, I can pull the scope off my SV9 Sniper, and use it as an Assault basically. Menus are slick and easy to use. Load times are fast. Spawn times are fast. Squads are easy to get into, easy to spawn on. Prone is beautiful. Strafing is awesome while sprinting now. Knifing takes me back to CSS days, sept the insta kill animation is awesome. Overall. Damn good beta. |

quite the opposite here eorl. rush is an awful gamemode and the first section of operation metro is badly designed. i'm falling through the world every two seconds the the game is missing some fairly important features, such as not being able to see server info ingame, and not being able to see your ping. and I can't access the menu while dead. what???
i'm reserving judgement until I play a conquest map though - you know, real battlefield. not this 'rush' bulls***, because right now it's a clone of medal of honor (the new one of course) |

^^^^^^ DO NOT DO THIS... It's cool, I got it working (and I don't have a quota, so I don't really care). I have to say, it's really different to BC2. I'm pretty terrible at it, my K/D ratio was always bad. Continuously getting killed out of nowhere, even when I think I'm in complete cover. Runs okay on my system, but I was hoping for more. I sit around 35 fps at max settings. Feels a bit crap, I'm used to having everything run at 60, might have to turn it down. |

The install files worked for me. Just make sure you know where your games directory on Origin is, change it in the options. I have my Origin folder on my second HDD. Rank 3 at the moment, The first part of the metro map is good but rest I don't care for. I am a conquest man.

I love the pistols in this game, they are actually great at close range combat, heaps better then a rifle. In metro the subway part, they are my weapon of choice, my main is the backup weapon lol.
I love the mobile spawn point, I plonk that thing down right up close to the action, and if I can sneak past the enemy I'll plant in a secret squirrel spot near their spawn. The infantry feel is so much better then previous battlefields (including bad companies), they really nailed it. The inability to change settings unless your alive is really inappropriate I feel, hopefully a beta thing. Also, you should be able to tweak your loadout during the end mission screen where you get all your pistols awards ;) The server browser I found at first to be horrible, however it quickly grew on me when I found I could alt-tab very easily and search for new servers. edit: O I really like how flashlights pointed right at you blind your eyes and you cant see squat. last edited by Tollaz0r! at 01:11:24 30/Sep/11 |

8: Start Origin and log in. You should now see Battlefield 3 as 'Ready to Install'. Click on that orange 'Ready to Install' button. I worked it out, I have to goto the free games tab in origin and choose the BF3 open beta before it will shot in the list, seems logical now but step 8 as quoted above could be improved to include that detail. |

I'm talking like diving to the ground, then getting pulled back up into a standing position and riddled with holes or dodging behind a corner and getting pulled back out and shot to death yet again... Or shooting someone only to die first and they live with 3 rounds off a sniper in their chest... And the SV98 is a fkn joke rifle, I think. |

Havn't noticed it in RE2 myself, been pretty smooth sailing and as far as I'm aware, all the BF3 servers have PB set as off in the server list? It just seems to be REAL S*** netcode *shrug* this server in browser and having to get into a game to change options sounds pretty f***** gaylord to me, why change something thats not broke and make it hard as s*** to do anything? Bet the marketing / Publisher guys had something to do with it. It's f*****g retarded and slow imo. So much pointless stuff for the average person who just wants to play a goddamn game... |

Yea the battle log thing is super gay, I can't see how they think players would give a f*** about it.... in game browser kthx. Had to alt-F4 to get out as there was no obvious exit button between rounds... to me that's something that should be handled before open beta point.
I did get some visual bugs but not much so meh beta. i did how ever see some serious issues with animations, massive clipping through the ground and ppl walking while leaning on a 45 degree angle. |

Ouch, everyone seems to be having a heap of trouble :( Feel for you all, as I'm going quite fine over here, no falling through, no bad stuff no nothing. Hit rego is perfect, better then BC2 for me. Pretty much 3 shots and people are dead with the assault gun.

I don't really like the whole launch through browser as well, but it has some neat features, like a platoon for my clan, parties, actual VOIP in the browser, and some nice customisation the browser. I don't really like the Facebook feel, but it's ok for now. |

Oh bloody lol, did some more twittering around and it turns out my Game was installed as Béta Battlefield and even in the registry as well, changed it all to "Beta Battlefield" as well as where its installed and im in game now :)

Yeah servers fill up quite fast, guess there are a lot of aussies wanting to play. Also, PB is actually off in all the servers, so no blaming that there yet.

But I'm in Europe theres crapload of servers, the issue I had is that probablyh becuase of some weird Dutch localisation things the charactherset for directory paths was completely wrong and batttle log didnt allow me to run it.
So far fairly impressed, the game looks a bit blanned on this metro map but its very smooth with ulttra settings turned on on my budged PC :) |

Played for about 30 odd min. here are my reactions.

That is a good thing. Also that it loads the game entirely beforethe game screen pops up so no menu screen really, that is also a great thing. Game runs like butter (perhaps as it should) with a 6990 with 1920x1080 ultra everything. Now if I can just find something like a GMG key for $40ish i'll be great. All this was made even better when, during gameplay (and unfortunatly I had JUST turned fraps off) I was hiding in the metro tunnels and 7 enemies ran right past my hiding spot. I jumped out, shot 6 of them and knifed the other right in the arse. Aw man that was cool. Looking forward to this now. last edited by DM at 10:09:49 30/Sep/11 |

You can only change them once you've spawned, just go into options and there will be a video tab that you can play with.

wow they manage to f*** that up royally.
BAD -why is there a prone? -why does f knife and not mousewheel click in? -guns feel light and toy like -animations of jumping over things were buggy as -see medi packs/ammo packs teleport -rego is horrible -getting kicked from server due to browser logging u out of battlelog for no apparent reason -hope the graphics aren't optimized yet, no where near as fancy as the videos on the highest settings) - not knowing were to go in maps and getting bum raped - really really really bad move not having ingame menu-server-options etc, this browser server is horrible/ having to waste 100-200mb of ram on having a browser open. - server browser really needs looking into, currently its f***** pathetic Good -maps look pretty sweet - blowing up buildings and explosions hoping for a significant improvement before release. |

Scoobs, this is my response:
- Prone is good. Gives a diversity to cover, and allows you to sneak around instead of being buttscrewed. And it was in BF2 and older games, don't see a problem - Change it. Go into keybinds and make it mousewheel click - Guns do feel somewhat light, but do have good pow to them - Animations seem to be fine for me when jumping over - No teleporting med/ammo packs yet - Rego is fine for me, I shoot, they get hit and die or I die cause I didn't hit em hard enough - What browser you using? Chrome hasn't kicked me out of Battlelog yet :S - Graphics can only go to High at the moment. Ultra is just High. Beta has them locked - Learn the map, easy to do when you play a bit more - If having a browser lags your computer, then you have other problems. It's a browser, it should be doing nothing to your FPS. Get 8GB cheap and be happy - Server browser is fine for what it does. Sure it needs improvements, but it's not that bad once you get use to it. And I like the info it gives you, there is quite a lot of information on weapons, unlocks, progression, joining platoons, after round battle logs etc. Everything is working well for me, haven't had any crashes, just servers timing out after a couple rounds. I'm rank 5 now, and enjoying every bit of it. Just try not to be a sour pussy, and enjoy a nice looking game for once. |

Mouse bindings. HOW TO ? Ok. This is how to bind keys and mouse buttons if you are having problems in game. Download "Autohotkey" and run it. You will get a default script in place. In its place I have this so that I can have right mouse button for move foward and "S" for zoom. I'm lost if I dont have the same settings in every FPS game :)

Actually I haven't really been hyped at all. I've purchased Red Orchestra 2 for my realism FPS, BF3 for my somewhat realism FPS, and MW3 for my arcade FPS. I was just commenting against what Scoobs said, and gave my opinion. Nothing wrong with that now is there?

if you have a logitech mouse with setpoint drivers you can assign a mouse button to a key stroke. it's the only easy work around I know of.

So after playing 3 rounds I don't mind it, feels and flows better than BC2 which is all I really cared about but I like everyone else really need to get onto Caspian to see it's true potential. It ran smoother than I expected tbh on w/e default settings are but the browser s*** is lame, I want a main menu and with that the ability to change settings out of play.

Yer I've commented on the bf3 feedback forums that the gun seems overpowered. I use the Mk11 and SVB (or whatever it is called), the starter recon weapons, with 4x scope because anything greater gives glint. I find 1-2 shots to upper chest kills most times it is highly accurate, coupled with the pistols of slaw there is seemingly no reason to go an assault rifle. The next recon weapon is a bolt action rifle and is incredibly slow between shots and on metro at least the starter weapons are vastly superior. Did I mention that pistols are awesome!!! p.s. pistols = awesome. |

Just a heads up to anyone using Trend Micro Titanium, if you have issues with Battlelog not loading properly it's due to Trend Micro blocking the browser plug-in. You'll need to hop in to Trend Micro's settings and add battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3 to the exception list. |

Did I mention that pistols are awesome!!! I was in the metro tunnels and was in a rather good spot covering some subway tracks. Had no backup and had one of my rare epic moments where I held off like 7 people on my own. However only 3 kills were with my rifle. That ran out rather soon since I was low on ammo already, whipped out my pistol and got another 4 kills. Was even getting long shot bonuses with it. They are indeed awesome and very underrated. Oh and I like the idea of the flash light blinding you if you are too close. It makes having it on actually useful rather than just a "oh s*** I forgot I had this on" button. Downside obviously is it totally gives you away. Played the Beta for an hour last night, first impressions are....
- GFX must be locked? I set to Ultra but no diff from High - very pretty visuals, lurv the character animations & map textures - Sound seems good - couldn't crank it up 'cause everyone was alseep, but BF series have a history of very cool sound FX - I couldn't hit s*** with most of the guns - dunno if I'm still getting used to the feel of the game or hit reg is bad - others were getting kills though so probably the former - Beta map really sux - doesn't promote open world style game play, lots of places for campers to pitch tents - doesn't have the wide open feel of BF2 or BC2 maps - Saw people running & proning at very unnatural angles - Tags dissappear & appear again for friendlies for short periods very frequently - Every few seconds the whole screen lit up with a faint light green\gray blast of light (not a torch! My card is 6950 with latest drivers on Win7 64-bit) - Don't mind the server browser, seems fast enough & filters work OK - The "feel" & "flow" of the game were nice - will improve further with better maps - did I mention Beta map sux?? - Characters blend too well into the background so much so that I found prone = invisible I'll give it another bash tonight...as soona s Battlelog comes back up :( |

They work exceedingly well for close quaters, don't expect a 2-3 shot kill though, sometimes it can take up to 5. I'm assuming you can combine flashlight with pistol yer? |

Right, so now 2 years later we're at the point where you actually really need to have it to Do Stuff that is important. I'm not a luddite or anything; there just hasn't been a compelling need for me to upgrade; it boggles my mind that people think it's weird that I haven't upgraded.
I just checked our stats in analytics; ~35% of people that visit the site are still using XP, which matches up to Wikipedia's estimates. It's not like I'm a fringe lunatic; there's still a bunch of people not using it. Isn't it more weird to you that they're cutting out that percentage of the PC market by not making games that can gracefully degrade? edit: Someone should make a "Lets buy trog Windows 7" fund lol.I've just been waiting until I buy a new PC, cuz I figure the thing I need Windows 7 for is likely going to be the thing I need a new PC for. I personally don't think it's weird, but people talk about "XP not being that old or out of date" but don't realise that it's as old as it is, or W7 is "this newfangled OS" like it's only just come out etc. I personally got W7 because I wanted to use DX10/11 and more than 3.6gb of RAM amongst other reasons. As for BF3, wait until they open up the conquest map and don't decide until you've had a go of that imo. Totalbiscuit was fairly "meh" about it in his first vid until he played the conquest mode and he was pleased with it *shrug* |

well the game isnt bad, dosent feel as laggy as the previous battlefield titles, but sweet jesus the browser is crap. the filters are freeking usless, i constantly get servers from us and uk despite checking the Oceania checkbox. where is the option not to see servers with a ping over 100 etc. its quite scary how much they can f*** up a game browser after all these years . hopefully there will be some more servers so i can actually reguarly log in. havent seen a single one playing the caspian border map yet.

1 thing about the server browser thing which I f*****g HATE, is that it only shows you like 30 odd servers at a time. You have to scroll down to open another 30 or whatever, then click sort by ping... which by the time you do that all the slots have filled up. S*** that there are only a few servers for the whole of australia. Worse yet is the connection issue of getting booted randomly so you wait all that time just to get kicked out 15 minutes later. Bad Company 2 beta was so much smoother in that way.

You could queue for servers a few days ago... It would then reserve your spot for 60 seconds or so and wait for you to hit join.
If you didn't then you passed your spot on. |

Rank 10, loving support, mowing down people is heaps fun. Got 5 knife kills in a row before, was to much fun. They need to make Caspian Border open to all, as it's the true BF3 map, where as Operation Metro is a more close quarters infantry map. Still heaps of fun though! |

I read that if you are getting DC a lot, turning of UPNP in your router fixes it somewhat. Worked for me kinda. Played a full 3 games before I got disconnected. I have come to the conclusion that rifles in the metro tunnels are alright, but what you really want is to rock that pump action shotty. Find a buddy to stick with and you will tear enemies up. If you get caught alone you can always whip out the pistol if there is a guy a bit further off.
2 more awesome animations. At the beginning when I throw the ammo box, you can see it split into 2 different boxes for some reason. 1 leaves the screen and the other stays for people to use. As if that isn't strange enough, this guy shows up and many lols were had. |

I'm impressed they've fixed 99% of the clipping issues.
Game on new rig is dreamy. Makes a big difference.. SV98 sniper with no scope and silencer is pretty cool :) Eorl and I tested out the party system and voice chat, seemed to work quite well. My only gripe with the game now with the beta now that the clipping issue is resolved, is the bullets navigating corners/netcode. But its not overly game breaking. Yeah i'm just using fraps. Wish I had something better as it kind of sucks. The files it captures are about 4 - 8gb big and only last 3 minutes before it splits into another.
I swear I had a program once that would capture footage and encode it as a divx file as it recorded so each minute of footage was only about 100 - 300mb depending on size of the screen. |

You can tell fraps to capture at half your screen resolution instead of full resolution, should make the files a bit smaller. But yeah, it streams out uncompressed avi's, so they end up pretty huge, you gotta pass them through another program afterwards to re-encode them into something sensible.

Make sure when you connect to servers, you check to see what server it sends you to. I've setup my filters and stuff for Oceania, but it still trys to chuck me on South African servers (ZA) once in a while, and the game feels bad on high ping.

Sif use the quick match feature. I had my filters set up, filtering for AU in the name with 1-5 slots available and get a list of about 30 servers. If I hit quick match (you would think it would use the filter settings but noooo) immediatelyit connected me to a server in .. Zimbabwe, because as an Australian that is where I like to play????

Haha DM, I've been noticing characters' arms going into bind-pose in pretty much every match. When it goes to the kill-cam, their arms briefly go to bind-pose whenever they throw down a medpack or an ammo pack. It doesn't stay like in that video though.
I did seemingly get killed by a corpse last night. When it went to the kill-cam, it was just a corpse lying on the ground, but it was sliding all over the place is if it were still a character running around and shooting. |

I've had trees vibrate and jiggle as they get shot by machine gun fire while I'm hiding behind it. Not shaking like you'd expect either, but like vertically jiggling up and down and moving side to side.
Also have this problem (I dunno if its lag related) where sometimes I'll sprint up and go prone behind something, but then I'll snap a few feet to my left/right after I've gone prone and suddenly be exposed instead of being behind the thing I was aiming for. |

I just had a great glitch where I could shoot. I could cycle through my weapons, aim down the sights, but I couldn't fire. What made it more annoying was I came up on some dude just casually walking around a corner, could have easily nailed him, but I just had to wait until he saw me and shot me. :(

With the GA client mirror I had to get Origin to start downloading the game, pause, exit Origin, copy files into the folder it made, start Origin, resume download and it was on ~98% downloaded so must have been some minor updates since.
The BatteLog system is actually really cool and I rate it quite highly at how they've implemented the system outside of the game. If anything it will allow the browser interface to be updated independently of the game so hopefully more refinements and tweaks to it. Onto the game and my first annoyance is needing to login to setup the screen res, inverting mouse, etc. Then finding no hardcore mode in beta :( I hate normal mode as they just feel like a fire fight free for all, ie: CoD. As for the game, well I wish I never got the beta. I was talking to hoggy yesterday and saying how I hate downloading betas because when the game turns out to be SO F*****G AWESOME IT IS THE MOST AWESOME THING EVAH! you have only a couple of days of play time before the beta closes or a long wait until release. I love the game, lots of fun and a good addition to the BF franchise. Fixah, will you be getting CD keys in advance?? :D |

Am I doing it wrong or can you not yet bind things to mouse buttons? CTD, I came up against thsi as well. They havent allowed for mouse bindings in the beta so you have to use a work around as per my earlier post. Ok. This is how to bind keys and mouse buttons if you are having problems in game. |

I hate the fact you can't use the menu ingame while you are dead. You are forced to respawn. Also that you can't use the chat box while dead either. What the f*** is with these bad design choices? No talking while dead? Jesus what else are you going to do while being forced to watch the enemy's ugly face for 5 seconds?

Its annoying that Battlelog doesn't automatically import your Origin friends list. I added everyone on Origin, but now I have to add them all again on Battlelog? Pretty lame.Without having any evidence to back it up, I think this sort of thing will get polished out post-beta based on things I'm reading in top secrat places. I think the best way to think of the beta is definitely as a fire-and-forget thing. |

I f*****g love the Bipod addon. It makes me feel like i'm in a bunker using a mounted gun. Hell i've ever used it to pick off enemies marked over 125 yards away. Even better is you get one for the SV98 or whatever it is which really would help out sniping. Still not a fan of prone though.

When you see it in action it's quite smooth and transparent and really is just removing the server browser from inside the game. Once your game is ready to go you're logged straight into the action - no waiting for splash screens, long delays loading, etc. As good as if not better than GameSpy or COGS, etc. Now back to trying to unlock some decent weapons.. |

I went from a score of 0/5 kill/deaths with 10 points total for something like spotting, to coming third* by the end of the round because of a 9+ killing streak. God i miss that rush from FPS's when s*** is going good.

Yeah, I had an epic streak in the last game I played, where we had one objective left to destroy and the other side had us pinned down, so I spawned and ran all the way out and around the far right hand side of the map and outflanked the defenders and took out f***loads of people. So much fun when you come swooping in on a bunch of camping defenders who are completely unaware of you. Even after a few games I can already see myself getting better, and I think it just comes down to knowing the map really.
They really have nailed the feel of the infantry combat, at the risk of using wanky buzzwords, it feels so visceral! I'm not liking the impossibly bright flash lights blinding me. I like when people forget they have it on though and give themselves away. |

QFT! I had an epic streak with it holding the ticket booths on metro. Exact same setup with flashlight also to blind people since it was pretty close combat. Just mowed people down, completely locked down the area and stopped their advancement. Woot. I love that gun now. |

I think it just comes down to knowing the map really. yea there are soem good spots to defend from and knowing what you can see from those spots help you know how to attack. |

Even if you just suspect that there's someone there, it's good to hit Q a couple times, you might spot someone there. |

I am loving this game so much.
I just assume everything I have an issue with is because it's beta. I love all the game play things though. Prone, squad spawning, cover fire, weapon reload times, lens glare, knifing, everything is just so right. Even origin and battlelog are, contrary to group-think expectations, not s***. I would like to see voip working though. I don't know why it can't just voip you in with whatever squad you are in like they did with BF2. Squad can all voip each other, squad leader can voip commander (or in this case since there isn't one, other squad leaders). What's the point in allowing me to voip with people on the opposing team because they are in the same 'party'?? |

I like what they've done with 3D spotting and spotting in general. You can't spam Q now to spot, as it will deny you after so many presses. And when you spot someone, it lasts for only short time, and if you lose line of sight, the triangle disappears, but they stay on the map in the last area seen.

I'm having huge problems with network lag, to the point where its not really playable :(
Lots of stuttering when I'm trying to move, resulting in falling behind my squad, missed jumps, rubber banding and position adjustments from the server, as well as arguing whether or not I really clicked prone or not resulting in stupid up-downs that end with my death @)*&^$@ Its not really fun at the moment sigh. Its a shame cos it feels pretty good and is a lot of fun when I can f*****g move properly. |

kinda over the bullet penetration in the game.. i've seen rocket launchers not blow up simple concrete barriers yet you can get a standard machine gun and snipe someone from 400m through 2 layers of stones.. how the mcf*** does that compute?

There is practically crap all destruction, and I'm hoping they have maps with more stuff to blow up. They touted that this new engine can do a load more, yet aren't really show casing it...

What's the deal with the level destruction? You get entire buildings collapsing in Bad Company 2, yet most of the level in this beta seems to be completely impervious to damage (apart from a few small walls). I was expecting to be absolutely amazed by the destruction, since they've been talking it up so much, but it seems so far behind BC2. What's the deal, is it just disabled for the beta?

Land destruction has been disabled in the beta due to the ground sinking, they have fixed for the final release though.
As for building destruction, I found most of the buildings in the other map to be destructible (what little I experienced). Metro map though, I am a little disappointed to the lack of destructible stuff too. |

Ahh there you go. The client prediction is pretty good and I think they may do something with prone so that if you are going prone or just gone prone and the guy shooting at you is aiming at your chest he will hit you anyway.
If they have done this it would be to prevent prone spamming. I've died heaps when I've been shot at and gone prone behind a wall but died anyway, I just figure the guy killed me before I went prone, that slight internet delay. Pro Tip: Go prone before being spotted. Also, I just had another epic MG round holding the subway. I had my MG bipoded on a stack of crates and giving some great supressive fire and kills. At the start there where heaps of other boxes in front and around. By the end, my cover was a tiny sliver, just enough to crouch and use my bipod and all the other boxes and whatnot where cut down by my MG hailstorm heheh |

toll, i aint talking about getting shot while been prone.. i'm talking about getting shot behind the stones while prone out of los of people... i'm pretty patient when it comes to betas but holy f*** it's annoying as balls.. just s**** me off that if i want i can see someone marked.. and then just get the m249 or something and spam on them and eventually kill them even though i have no idea what i'm shooting through half the time because the range is so long.

I'm seeing a lot of very long distance shots with guns like the SAW which is just not ment for long range and yet it's out doing sniper rifles. Which by the way I can't aim for f*** anymore. Was a total bad ass in BC2 aiming the rifle but now I can't adjust to the distance markers.

There is a big discrepancy of what is on your screen & theirs. I killed a guy who was on vent with me who panic proned just before hitting the concrete blocks in the middle of the map. Nahh Always carry x4 scope for recon. The x8 is overkill for the short distances in the map AND it gives you away with the lens flash. The x4 gives you enough zoom to take out any snipers with ease at long range. It is also short enough zoom so that you can use it short-medium range.
I carry it on most weapons I use, except the SAW which has that other 3.4x(or whatever) scope. I also have the laser sight attachment, I never use it to aim but it can blind/annoy people you are shooting at. Enough to throw their aim out. I like the flashlights on the pistols, blind the crap out of anyone you are shooting at... and your team too hehe |

Yeah I just learned the wonders of the starter russian sniper rifle with the 4x scope on it. It's bloody great since as you said is enough zoom for long range kills but doesn't blind you if you need to do a quick scope on someone close by.

This game is too busy, too fast paced, too exaggerated. There is no time to stop and think, it's just run and shoot. When I did this with a f*****g shotgun I'm losing match ups at close range, 1 direct hit is not killing most times, the time it takes to pump it is more than your life expectancy in view of the enemy. Really f*****g want hardcore mode, also I could not knife a guy who was prone, so I got shot in the shins...

Pretty much all of that is due to how small and cramped this map is. Caspian Border will be the true Battlefield experience. I don't get why they didn't just go with that map, the BC2 beta featured a pretty good sized map.

I'm not liking the impossibly bright flash lights blinding me. I like when people forget they have it on though and give themselves away. I'm loving it the flash that the scopes give. Players see them will often just freeze and stare like a stunned deer. It allows you to aim up tighter and pull off an easy head shot :)
sadly I find this to be exactly like BC2 - especially when there's a 400+ pinger lagging up the BC2 server, or if I'm on a bloody Hypernia/GA server. XTG ran a high ping kick on their BC2 boxes so I'd say I'd be mostly playing on theirs or the TOG servers over the next year. TOG's 4 servers were all all Hypernia boxes though oddly server #2 didn't have any lag issues for me :/ The real bugger about this is that my brother is also on TPG just down the street @ Coorparoo and doesn't have any of these lag issues at all. I'm not exactly the greatest at FPS and in most games (except QW, I owned that) I have a negative K/D ratio and I'm not fussed by that, I still enjoy playing, being a support person, getting deep into the map so I can get my squad members to spawn on me, etc.
In saying that, I'm getting absolutely raped in BF3 - I'll put a few rounds into a guy for him to just stare at me, whip out a portable BBQ, cook up some bacon and eggs, maybe make himself a freshly squeezed OJ, then he washes and packs it all away before taking out his gun and shooting me once to kill me.. not sure whether this is me, the game betaness or someone putting some hacks into play. |

Had this guy with a stupid 10:1 KD ratio cold while he was setting up the bomb, literally emptied am M16 clip into him from about 5 metres and he calmly turned around and one-shotted me. I'm not the best shot (about 0.3 KD at the moment, mostly cos I go all aarrghh!!!! and spray bullets when I see bad guys :) but I know he took most of those shots into the chest on my screen. Guys in our TS were complaining about him later on the map so there could be hax or lag / rego bugs affecting certain players. Another problem is that parties don't work properly and squads are random. We have ~10 people in our regular teams and its s*** that we can't reliably get onto the same team, let alone the same squads. On the upside I'm really liking battlelog. Works well and has great features, and the disconnect from the game itself will make it no doubt easier to push more s*** out to it. |

Is anyone getting a lot of server disconnects and/or freezes? I probably get a server disconnect about 60% of the time (which sucks as it's usually when I'm playing well) and freezes maybe 1 in 5 games.

When I first started playing I thought lens flare was impacted by the position of the sun and I thought, 'OMG that is cool, you really have to think about where you snipe from and if the sun is dynamic that just becomes all kinds of awesome!'

Some servers are controlled by the host provider, others are people buying through provider and changing settings. I've found with support, I can never really take notice of how many bullets I've put into people, as when I mount up and start pumping bullets, I just ignore everything but what is in front.

Also it's a attack & defend map, one side is meant to be camping. Hardcore mode does not equal camping, it makes you give a s*** about being reckless and makes you think. Also removes the frustration of having to shot ppl so much, sure sometimes you get a lucky one shot but I just as often get heaps of hit indicators just to go down to the person I'm peppering. |

Login servers are down or something. Keeps coming up with either "a generic error occured" or "no contact with EA back end", the later of which kind of disturbs me a bit. Why do I need to contact EA's ass?
EDIT - Oh and prone kind of s**** me. Wish they hadn't added it back into the game. It really does f*****g suck when you get shot and the kill cam zooms into some guy hidden in a bush. It's not the camping that annoys me it's the fact EVERYONE prones and it makes it so hard to get kills at times. I had a game where I was 0 and 14. I used to think this way too until I actually started putting some time into hardcore servers on BC2, now I can't go back to standard servers. People really do take too many shots to kill, imo. A shot to the chest from medium range with a sniper rifle should kill, not take a little over 60% of their health. It also encourages people to be more careful. The only thing I don't like about hardcore on BC2 is that it removes the HUD. That just seems silly. |

I have no problems with prone, I barely even notice it. If you are getting killed by people being prone all the time, you're doing it wrong.
Try going prone yourself and crawling up along cover, then bolt from cover to cover. Always assume when you are in 'dead mans ground' you have been spotted so keep your head down. If are going to camp to hold ground for whatever reason, go prone, preferably before you arrive at your destination. No point getting to where you want to set up a MG then going prone after your big head has been spotted. If you want some easy points, and I suspect it will be the same in final release, go support and drop ammo around squads of team mates. Since almost no-one does it everyone is always low on ammo and can easily rack up 100+ poitns per ammo drop. If it is a good choke point you can just keep dropping ammo packs and you'll gain 1000 points before you know it. All the time you can also be gunning people down and big points will be had. You also seem to gain some good bonus points the longer your kill streak goes for. |

BF 1942 on Wake Island was the best Battlefield experience to date. BF3 has yet to beat it, though has potential.

I can't join any servers since about 20:15 tonight. I filter to ones with +5 free and even with only 25 in the server it's straight away saying full.

I'm sure it's intentional. They seem to be trying to minimise rage-quitting. They probably found that if they don't give people a way to quit before they're respawned, people are more likely to just have "one more go" because they're already spawned and they may as well. I'm also pretty sure that you lose any progress if you quit before the end of a match. Oh, and that video Reality posted was hilarious. |

Yea I was pissed about the quit thing, but then i worked out that u need to alt tab out and hit close game via the battle log then hit yes on the window that is prob behind the now windowed game client... so u gotta minimize that....................................

You don't lose any progress when quitting before match ends. That's why it's always doing that saving each time you respawn.

I just ctrl-alt-del and end process when I want to quit.
I too think the lack of exit when you're dead is to reduce rage-quits. I've now almost racked up as much time with MG's as recon. Sad Panda that my next unlock, Mortar, is unavailable in beta :( I find it is a little lame when both sides manage to lock down the first set of M-Coms so that the game doesn't progress. That being said, it is great to be on the team that is locking it down. |

I just got out of a very long game then. 40 kills to 20 deaths. We got to the very last M-Com station, B and we just held them off for that long. Felt like an eternity. So many points, 10000 or more.

really looking forward to a hardcore mode for this game.... it's frustrating when 'the most realistic shooter ever' still lets people run around after taking 5-8 bullets from just about any weapon.

I just find the bugs amusing really, most of those videos with crazy bugs get a laugh out of me. None of the bugs I've come accross have really dampened my enthusiasm for the game though or ruined my fun, cos you expect bugs really, its a beta not a demo, so you go in with that mentality.

Don't like this not being able to edit shennanigans. So I unlocked that IRV1 scope for the UMP-45 and holy s*** is that amazing. When you are in the subway part of the map that thing shines. I got 2 Squad Wipe awards with it on medic as well as 11 kills in 1 life. Makes the tunnels a dark green colour while enemies pop up in bright yellow/red. Oh man i'm in love with that combo now. Every load out must have it.

I am a bit bemused by all the talk of bugs.. y'all recall what a beta is for, right? :) Actually I'm of the opinion that pre-order/open betas are today's demo's, the only benefit they really get is a massive stress test. Who here is submitting useful bug reports? I know I'm not. I am judging this game on it's design choices though. I guess it will depend on how many of the many bugs make it to retail, when ever that is. |

I find the assault class to be almost redundant, each other class has better equipment and/or weapons. I feel they need to beef up the damage of the assault rifles a tad and maybe give that class 2 grenades as stock. |

The design choice to make Assault the medics is a very good one in my opinion. They are now closer to the battle, and are able to get in and revive people and pull them back into action. |

yeah, the ump spam in that dark underground area by prone guys is ridiculous. i'm playing it on 360, and it is fun, but damn i get killed by people i can't even see most of the time, haha. do enjoy the squad stuff though, if you are in a good squad, spawning on top of each other consistently is awesome

-why do the guns handle like CoD? counteract the recoil, and you'll find all the weapons will be spot-on up to medium range - even the shotgun is nuts (put flechettes and extended mag on it...) -why are the flashlights and laser sights so stupid? they get in your eyes even if they are aiming at your crotch -go through 3 different menus to modify my gun. i can't do it on the spawn screen? -can't quit game while dead (have to alt+f4) what about communication?? isn't this a team game? how am I supposed to ask for ammo? this is an integral part of the game. if it's not in the beta then communication options either don't exist or the devs are stupid. it's also funny how the game treats you like a CoD idiot. points and ribbons for having the squad spawn on you? hahaha these problems are not on account of its beta status... don't be so naive, half of these 'problems' will make it into the final game. there are threads on the forums (countless ones) talking about how the helicopters have been dumbed down - they are tilt locked and don't have full 360 rotation like DC and BF2. the one part i was looking forward to the most - had my joystick ready and everything. imo bf3 = game for casuals. not a worthy successor to BF. will not buy at all, or will buy from a cdkey website ending in .ru |

F*** heads wouldn't drop it. There needs to be a key where you can target someone and it'll ask for their specific group bonus. Like recon's it tells to drop moveable spawn, assault's it tells to drop med kits and so on. |

I don't think they are putting in the squad stuff in-game, only in Battlelog.
It sucks because I don't understand why they would go backward like that. I also hate getting stuck with a bad, bad squad, I'd rather be in no squad. Actually I'd rather swap into another squad but I can't! |

EDIT - Or i'm totally wrong According to the Battlefield 3 community manager, zh1nt0, the squads can only be managed on Battlelog and not in the actual game. Besides the fact that the Nvidia drivers crash directX on my machine 75% of the time ( I cant even play fullscreen), the number of small bad decisions made in the design of this game are stacking up, I am really reconsidering whether I will buy the retail version.

Hilarious that you post vids of what choppers can really do then post that BF2 vid.... in the first 2mins or so two choppers drop their tails into the water then fly off as if nothing happened.
Anyways I didn't see anyone doing loops in what i actually watched of it, I don't do loops in Arma, which is more realistic than both but still arcade like for choppers. Loops are meh. Haha as I'm typing this I'm seeing the rotors of the choppers in that vid clipping through so much s***, skill my ass. |

i'm taking a stab at how their design decisions conflict with implementation. are they gunning for accessibility? in that case you can rule out the hardcores. no money to be made from them, anyway.

Oh dear... SKS + holo is an awesome gun (it's technically a semi-auto sniper rifle but stuff using it as one).
However I just unlocked the M40A5 bolt action... Again pulled the scope off it, but I don't think I could use any other gun, the sound this thing makes every time you fire it is unbelievable. Haven't heard a gun sound so good in an FPS to date. |

another example of how they have lowered the skill ceiling for casuals. Its not supposed to be a helicopter simulator though. Makes sense to me to make the game more accessible, not only does it mean it will appeal to more people, but it means you've got more chance of having a good game on a public server if people can actually fly the planes/helicopters/whatever semi-properly. I mean how many times in BF2 do you see people run and jump in a helicopter, take off, and then immediately crash when they try and turn? Thats not fun for anyone. I'm all for more making games more accessible and easier to pick up, the whole elitist "this isn't cool because its not difficult to figure out" mentality is just dumb. Just because its easier for people to get into, doesn't put them on the same footing as people who are really good at the game, it just gives them a fighting chance. There'll still be a chance for the awesome players to shine I'm sure, and we'll still see plenty of videos of people doing amazing things that I could never hope to do. I didn't watch that whole BF2 chopper video, just the first few minutes, but I didn't see anything that couldn't be done with BF3 choppers? It might turn into a stunts video later on with loops and stuff, but all the combat bits I watched just looked like he was good at flying it and aiming, which should translate over to BF3 as well I would imagine. |

Nah I don't think it has all that much really. Hell I remember back in BF:V days when I'd get into a chinook and my friend would jump in the back. I'd fly up as high as we could go and then i'd switch seats to watch him lift off the floor and zoom around the back doing flips and s***. Once he got sucked out of a window and we laughed so hard we couldn't play for a few minutes.

I thought headshots were one hit kills? Not in my experience, I had a guy take 4 hits in the head from my M16 (all I could see was his head). Also I've just tried the M320 grenade launcher... it's f*****g terribad, two hits are needed for a kill and it's velocity is way too high and as a result it has almost no arc at all. Also you have to give up slot 3 (medpack) & weapon mod slot 2 to use it (attached). I guess DICE don't like noobtubes... yet there is endless RPG spam. Edit: Actually the M320 grenade launcher has no arc at all, the aim point is the impact point regardless of range. |

Anybody else get these 'lag' death issues?
His first case: Instantly dying for 100% health to 0% (It's not head shots with the lack of head shot crosshair icon) Second Case: Being hit after running behind cover. Just after halfway there is one there I have experienced before where you can run halfway down a hall and a guy who was in he open has supposedly killed you? Third case: Bullets that do no damage despite shooting first. Only experienced this one a couple of times. Seems to be client side prediction issues? Makes me wonder how many times the kills I get is this sort of stuff happening to other people. |

I run it in windowed mode, Works well plus you can browse the web and chat or whatever. Running it on nvidia gtx570 running the beta drivers. Works well. +1 for using Pistols, they are fracking mad in this game.
Every now than then in BC2 you would get a chopper guy who knew what he was doing......it was terrible to be on the opposing side, wheather it be on foot or in a tank, those flyboys would scrap you easily and there is not a whole lot you could do about it. |

Anybody else get these 'lag' death issues? I get heaps of this, I come under fire but clearly get behind cover to just die there, I sometimes die and my body gets pulled back sometimes as much as 10m. I also get a lot of the shoot first die first crap, I mainly put it down to others having better weapons (for example the F2000 seems to do twice the damage of the M16 even though the fire the same round), I also assume once the server tags you as dead your shots are 'removed' so even though you were getting ass loads of hit indicators you are out of play so no kill after the fact. My method of testing lag in BC2 is still valid here, get your knife out and stab something destructible, note the delay between impact and destruction, that's your lag. I'd put it at about 150ish. No wonder they chose to hide ping in game this time around. |

Oops I just noticed my link didnt work. Not so good at doing links. That vid shows exactly what I've been experiencing. Heh, just got out of a match where we got pushed to first area in subway, and I was holding everyone off as support. 30-7 and got a s*** load of experience and ribbons. By far support is the best class with the M249 and just prone, bipod out and your set. Only time I died was by UMP d*******s. The M249 seems pretty powerful, also I've noticed there is no mobility penalty for using it, you can wield it like an SMG. Speaking of SMG's I just unlocked the UMP.... enjoying the game a lot more now, that thing makes me feel like I'm playing on hardcore, the way it should be. |

Nah trauma firing the saw while on the move can't hit s***. No no I don't mean on the move, I mean when your sprinting along you can very quickly go from full sprint to accurate fire. One would think it would be a bit slower given it's size and weight. |

Speaking of SMG's I just unlocked the UMP.... enjoying the game a lot more now, that thing makes me feel like I'm playing on hardcore, the way it should be.Oh no, don't get used to using the broken gun :/ My weapon of choice currently: M40A5 with just iron sights + Tact Light. Statistics kills 187 headshots 97 shotsFired 613 accuracy% 45.4 It has it's down sides, 75% max damage per shot except head and even then sometimes it seems to leave them on 0% ??? I've found a way to replicate my "Connection to the server has been lost" and it involves actually having a streak of owing the s*** out of people, playing really well, getting a good amount of points and then the crash occurs.

here is what real helicopters can do: Apaches can go underwater, crash into s***, skim along the ground with their tail rotor totally underground and walk away scratch free! I think not. You will still be able to perform most of the air to air combat you saw in that BF2 video, as said above, who gives a s*** about loops. |

I really, really hope that Dice listen to the people about in-game squad management. Easily the most wanted, most missed and most useful feature they could add that isn't currently available. I agree with you Tollaz0r! I was in a game last night with you, Hog and Nats - with a bunch of other non-Ausgamers people and we couldn't join the same f*****g squad!!! WTF.
Also, earlier, about 5 of us created a platoon and tried to join an almost empty server (about 12 slots out of 32) and only 2 of us were placed in while the others sat there, bugged out, and then couldn't join! This s*** needs to get fixed ASAP, it's pretty basic to be honest, and I don't see why you wouldn't want to allow it. |

I got the Engineer's bomb robot yesterday. managed to do a defuse with it. Wish it could at least poke the enemy or something, or bash in to them.
Going to be fun using it to set us up the bomb. |

Damn mephz nice work, that reminded me of the bolt rifles in Red Orchestra 2, just weaker. I'd rather die to that than the typical mk11 spam.
Oh and I'm fully expecting the UMP to get a nerf as it really needs it, but I also would never play retail on normal mode, so it should be similar on hardcore. I'm seeing a glimpse of hardcore with it. |

was playing with nats last night (although i don't think he knew! im in his friends list!). Although it was funny to see him say "WHY IS NO ONE DROPPING AMMO!?!?!?" when he has about 3 - 4 support players with him. I changed class to help him out =]
Although he did ignore my hello's in game, a******. Chat system could be better in game as well :O |

nice scopes. Love the IRNV. Really? I find it washes out way too much even in the subway, also if anyone has a flash light or a scope that give a lens flare it washes it out even further, also the illogically placed fires in the subway wash it out a lot. Seems like a night only thing to me but maybe a wide open space would be more suited. |

Yeh it doesn't affect everyone, obviously.
But the only servers I CANT connect to are GA, I can conect to node, NZ, f*****g 500 ping servers in DE are fine. Every time I try to connect to GA it fails - Malthius acknowledged its broken for some Telstra customers in the thread. |

Mine are either no ping or 190ish, the odd 20/30 ping and I jump on it. Starting to doubt the accuracy of these pings though.
On a more humerus note I think i just got booted for saying "yea no s***" to some genius that said take B... then after we got it he says take A...... |

Hardcore is disabled atm but I agree the models are far too similar, also you can always see the squad name tags I've had a few moments where I had an enemy align with a distant squad members name tag and ignored them just to get owned. |

Got a few kills with the C4 packs tonight. I always forget to use them in games, but I managed to keep them at the front of my mind and it succeeded. Wiped out a squad in one blast, it's pretty cool that you get a bonus for that.

I was using my robot last night to defuse bombs and kill people. Seems many people haven't seen it yet so let it burn them. Especially when they are planting c4 in a clusterf*** at one o the sites. They blow their cover trying to get away

The cheating is getting a bit out of control in the beta now, I just had two Aus servers in a row where every time you spawn everyone teleports to I presume the hackers location for one big cluster f***.

Still so few support drop ammo. holy f*** this annoying! im always scattering ammo around when im support, its like ppl forget about it. the amount of times ive been kicking ass only to run out of ammo and have no ammo boxes around >< +1 for over the cheaters, all this effort to get into the game and people are still hacking :/ |

yeah, i've been playing mostly support, with a bit of recon thrown in. i've only played almost two hours so far, on the 360, but i have been racking up points dropping ammo to my squad. the only thing that frustrates me, is that i don't really like the default weapons for support and i haven't unlocked anything better yet. dropping ammo at the mobile spawn point where we were pinned down racked me up heaps in one go, trying to fight our way out of this room everyone needed lots of ammo :)
have been using the ACOG on MK11 for recon and really enjoying that. love setting up a sweet mobile spawn point also, get some good points through that. |

i hate that you auto drop the ammo/medpacks and cant cancel it. sometimes i accidentally hit the key when im trying to change weapon during a fight.

I've been playing mostly assault, with a very little bit of support, haven't even tried engi or recon yet. But I'm always tossing out health as assault, whenever I spawn on a teammate I toss out health, or if we're defending somewhere I toss it around. Don't see a lot of other people tossing out health and/or ammo though :(

I hadn't seen many people dropping either, but then in the game I just played before it seemed like everyone was dropping s*** all over the place, medpacks and ammo abounded.

I for one hope we get a change to actually play the proper Battlefield map, Caspian Border. Metro is not awesome to showcase Battlefield 3, then again this is not an actual demo. Anyone remember BF2 demo? I played on a UK server if I remember correctly, 400+ ping but I enjoyed it.

I presume this is also a bug, but is there a trick to planting a mobile spawn point as recon class? Sometimes I have to mash mouse1 a dozen times before the damn thing will deploy. Yea I get that too, I find going prone seems to do the trick. |

It needs to be on flat ground, it's a pain in the ass. And by flat, I mean pretty much dead level. It will destroy itself when the gameplay moves up to next MCOMMS. It can be replenished with ammo box. You can also pick it up by pressing R when near it, but then its weird and bugs out and you have to "reload" by pressing r again to plant it back down, as though it were a rifle O.o The mobile spawn point is probably the whole reason I play recon, it's awesome :) |

I just tried out the recon class properly for the first time, went iron sights SVD... jeez that is OP, as is the Mk11 with iron sights. I kinda think they should be forced to use a scope, minimum 4x. Even then Mk11 + Acog is deadly up close. Also just about all weapons can get all the same sights, a bit of diversity would be good there.

I've mainly been playing recon with a splash of engineer.
It makes sense they putting metro through it's paces because they need to iron out the general fps bugs before introducing vehicle issues. |

Word of warning: those planning on running RAGE will be unhappy to know that the drivers you MUST use for said RAGE will (at least in my case) reduce your fps by about half in BF3. I was running a flat 85 fps and after installing the special drivers for rage, I've dropped down to about 50 at max. Average being about 30 or so and not only that, the quality of the game has dropped quite a bit. Text is all over scanned like you would see in 1 of those filters for an old SNES game, textures are murky at best and it generally looks rather s***.
Sometimes I really seriously regret getting another ATI card. May just sell this one or bin it, and buy a 590. |

There is no way anyone could convince me to buy an ATi/AMD card, unless it was top tier and for $100. Also awesome video Rav. The mobile spawn is one of the best things about Recon, Can't wait to use it on better maps and conquest mode. Only 5 days left of Beta......want Conquest!!!!

With the mobile spawns - I put one down in the bushes in the circular gazebo thingy at the first stage as defenders. When the attackers take the first mcom, I spawn at the mobile respawn with the shotty and take em out from behind. Works a treat ;) Especially in the dark subway tunnels. I think it lasts until the 3rd mcom stage... or until you stop spawning on it... not sure.. |

Saw something funny yesterday as well that I didnt record, a teammate shot an attacker on Metro and when he died his body just flew really fast towards us and hit some wall, could have been a grenade that got him but the way the body flew just looked impossible. |

Whats with the flying spy drone thing? I've had a few of them fly right up to me like they're trying to attack me with it and nothing happens so I just shoot it down and move on. I'm guessing its purely just for scouting purposes?
I think it lasts until the 3rd mcom stage... or until you stop spawning on it... not sure.. They can be destroyed by the other team too, I've killed a few when I've seen them Had a weird thing going on with Battlelog when I was just playing, I made a party with my brother, found a server with a few open slots and clicked "Join as Party", but then me and him ended up in completely different servers. |

One thing is getting on my nerves is when you get killed you have to look at the dude who killed you for 5 seconds. I want to hit enter and go to the spawn/weapons screen like you can in other BF games. Its wasting time just by sitting there looking at some dude derp'ing around.

I wish there was taunt animations, or even just a waving animation or something, so after you kill someone and you know they're looking at you, you could rub it in even more :P
Actually, one thing I'd really like to see (but I dunno if this level of integration is possible), is the ability to play with and setup loadouts on the Battlelog website, and then have it reflected ingame when you play. Just played a game where the other team had a hacker going 50-4 average per round. They kept lauding it over us and calling us pussies. Next minute we get a hacker on our team who goes 80-2 and theirs leaves. Then they start screaming we are c**** and they all leave the server. hahaha good times.

Yeh four sets of m-com: bush (sniper c**** in bush) subway (sniper c**** in trains) upstairs (sniper c**** at top of escalators) city (sniper c**** in houses) I'm not sure of the timing, but I gather that if it takes a long enough time (or enough deaths maybe?) to take the first two m-coms that it opens up the third one rather than just declaring the match? I think I've seen attackers win at subway anyway... |

Last maybe 12 rounds I've played on metro, defenders have always won. Even the team which is clearly better just pushes too slowly at some point along the map and they lose.

I just scored 17-0 on Metro. Was recon class but had 4x scope on the mod11 and up close and personal, 7 of my kills was a pistol. Ended up picking up a MG near the end because I wanted more pistol ammo haha

Thats the funny thing about the game, I had some shocker rounds where i barely made a dent but then still playing on the server I was able to come on top with a few killing sprees of being in the right moment.

Well I'm pretty f*****g disappointed... the game will not recognize my joystick, it's got some f***** XBOX binds by default and just wont take any binds from my joystick. Funny part is I bought the joystick I'm using when I bought BF2 and it was great for that.

I had to quit game unplug my joystick, reset it's settings just to get the game to detect the f*****g thing, now all the binds I do show up as Xbox binds, like R Trigger etc. I set throttle up to my joystick throttle.... comes out the other end as eject.........FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I tried flying a chopper with the 360 controller, which lead into failure .... keyboard and mouse a lot easier
besides that I quit after about 5 minutes of playing cause of horrendous molasses type lag that plagues the frostbite engine, hopefully its ironed out sooner than later on the release versions |

The netcode is one of the many things that we are testing as part of the Open Beta and is not necessarily reflective of the final retail game that not necessarily part seems a bit gay =( |

Is the "You have been kicked from the server by an administrator" message what happens when PB kicks you, cos I'm getting that all the time, can't stay in a game for more than 30 seconds :(

I got "disconnected from the server" as well.
Seriously lame if the admins are just kicking people to make room. |
