Haven't seen this posted yet (its not the teaser).
Join us as we follow Staff Sgt. Black and his team of U.S. Marines into the bad part of town in this first installment of the Battlefield 3 Fault Line video series. Shows 2 & 1/2 minutes of gameplay on the PC. Looks amazing. AusGamers HD option Official BF3 site |
Me neither.
Saw some 45 second gamplay footage which was only a few seconds longer than the teaser. Looks the s***. |
THAT WAS AWESOME
and deserves to be written in all upper case i need a better pc :-( |

f*** that's epic
will upgrade for this one for sure |
I saw blood, better RC this s***!
f*** me dead this game looks epic, diaf infinity ward. |
Looks as bloomy as BC2 was which isn't a good thing in my mind.
|
I can't imagine this looking anywhere near that good on consoles, but if it does, holy f*****g goddam. My money is on this finally starting the divide between current gen consoles and PCs though. yep i think consoles will miss out on some nice graphics settings/details. |
Yeah the link i provided is a bit odd, sometimes takes you to the earlier teaser that was released but the second click took me to the right video.
|
Its not even funny how much awesome it looks. I cannot imagine it looking that good on console, but if I'm wrong I'll happily stand corrected - but if I'm right, it's merely testament to how awesome and scalable PC is visually. I say that having seen almost every goddamn PC game that has been released in the last few years - this is a Big Step Up.
|
Just watched the trailer they released - we saw a little bit more, but /no/ MP. And they're not talking about MP at all yet - only SP.
Take from that what you will. ie, a big part of BF3 is the fact that it's going to be a game for consoles as well as PC, I guess. Sort of sad for a brand that was launched as a PC multiplayer game only, but I guess that's where we're at! |
I think the best part is that it's being developed as a PC game first, and this shows with them demoing it on a PC. Every gameplay video you see these days is always done with a console.
Trog, what sort of hardware were they using to run this beast? :P |
I want a scene where you burst in on a group and hold them up, no shooting.
Then you have to go among them and pull out targets, watching for people who move for weapons suddenly, and pistol whip them. random each time who tries s*** |
Trog, what sort of hardware were they using to run this beast? :Punknown. I assume high spec. Btw, don't get me wrong, not saying it was flawless; there were a few things I saw already that pissed me off and I feel shouldn't have been in a demo like that, if only not to annoy the Anal McLoonies like me. But overall - lots of potential, engine-wise, and lots of potential gameplay wise. |
think i need to start saving for a new system now...
|
Looks beast. About time pc graphics start pulling ahead of console.
|
F*** that's brilliant
Engine is good enough for Half Life 3 |
So pretty! & I jizzed in my pants at the WASD thing that came up. Hoping this redeems the battlefield name.
|
so it says you can pre-order.
When's it out? Is it coming to steam? |
so it says you can pre-order. I predict november. |
How have they managed to COMPLETELY remove jaggies from real time rendering?
|
Anti aliasing? Completely removing aliasing has been available for ages.
|
God damn that was f*****g unreal, I'd go as far to say it's almost photo realistic, almost.
I wonder if that last bit at the end where he runs to the van was scripted? It didn't seem to be, which is f*****g cool. |
Anti aliasing? Completely removing aliasing has been available for ages.Except that traditional AA doesn't completely remove jaggies like these BF3 screenshots show, unless its pumped way beyond what is possible with reaosnable performance. It looks much closer to the super smooth AA you see in pre-rendered clips like the meet the class TF2 videos. Looking into it a bit, frostbite 2.0 uses deferred shading which apparently prohibits using traditional AA. Instead its using something called Subpixel Reconstruction Anti-Aliasing. Some info screenshot comparisons and a white paper here - http://anteru.net/projects/research/subpixel-reconstruction-antialiasing/ Pretty substantial difference... so thanks for another useless post midda. |
God damn that was f*****g unreal, I'd go as far to say it's almost photo realistic, almost. Not really sure, i'm guessing no because they have already said that explosions can lift you off your feet. |
Was watching the mouse movement and it definatley doesn't look like it's being played on a console which is a big hi 5 for me. So many trailers you see now days you can tell they are consoled up because of the way they move. Like Brink for eg... i watched some vids for that the other day and you could see the gumby thumbstick movement and poofta aim assist... LAME...
Bring on BF3. Looks RAD. Pre ordered already.... |
Yer, that did look pretty good. Raised the bar for Military style games I reckon.
|
think i'll be passing on mw3 for this
|
Does nobody else find it kind of unsettling that there's real people doing this right now and probably having the most s*** time of their lives for it, and they're trying to make super-realistic games that recapture that experience so that we play for the lols? Just me?...
|
meh.
no epic multiplayer = not BattleField. Looks cool though. |
Looks f*****g nice.
Hopefully I'll be picking up parts for my new pc today. Gonna be very kick-ass! |
there is no way there won't be multiplayer
|
Haha, they've already said they're having multiplayer, unless your living under a rock, it's been in gaming news for a month or so now.
I loved the battle scene at the end, especially the voice acting, and life like commands. "I'm up, I'm up, I'm f***ed up but I'm up". Just adds to the awesome. |
I think Whitewolf was more referring to the fact that if MP isn't done well it will not matter how awesome it looks..
|
a 5870 or 5970 would handle dx11 easy.
|
It handles current DX11 easily. afaik most games with DX11 atm don't actually utilise all the features of it, so it's a big call saying that Rdizz.
|
yeah it does need 64 slot multiplayer. that would make it epic.
|
my 5970 never had a drama with BF:BC2 or Stalker:COP or dirt 2. That video doesn't look all that much better than BC2 on max
|
64 players in MP, might need a beast of a PC to run it smoothly if you want everything on max, like I usually do.
|
32 vs 32 players, with jets. What more do you want??
It'll be sweet. |
I've got 2x 5770's crossfired, and it plays all DX11 games with 90 FPS +, however I turn down shadows cause they're pointless.
|
Also, I hope to god that they have knife as a actual weapon. I wanna stab the s*** out of people while bee lining.
|
I like how in the face of this amazing new engine, the cod games still want to keep to their s***** 6 year old engine.
Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling has said that building a new engine for the Call of Duty franchise "would be counter productive". http://www.computerandvideogames.com/291588/news/modern-warfare-3-new-engine-would-be-counter-productive-infinity-ward/ |
I like how in the face of this amazing new engine, the cod games still want to keep to their s***** 6 year old engine.I don't get how you reached that conclusion from what he said at all. He just rejected the notion of building a new engine from the ground up. Do you think Frostbite is built from the ground up each game? Unreal Engine 3? Source? Hell, by your definition Source Engine is a 15 year old engine, since it was built on tech from the original Quake from 1996. Of course the CoD games are going to continue evolving on their existing tech, it would be a huge money pit to start from scratch and totally unnecessary. |
console are falling behind that is all
|
Looks as bloomy as BC2 was which isn't a good thing in my mind. ^ this. it bugged the s*** outta me in BF:BC2... I mean sure it looks great while you're looking around the game... but when the weather effects aren't a part of the games net code (ie weather effects generated locally... so the blizzard that hits... and means I can't see through, only affects me... the other guy sees me clear as day...) That being said... BF:BC2 is a decidedly pretty game... it's quite understated, but a bloody good engine (net code not-so-much, but y'know, it's an EA/DICE game... they only really optimise the net code properly just before they discontinue support for it) |
Do you think Frostbite is built from the ground up each game? Unreal Engine 3? Source?Pretty sure (but not 100%) that Frostbite 2.0 was rebuilt from the ground up. Several of the id engines were rebuilt from the ground up, because each time it was such a big learning experience that when they went on to the next game, they decided that it would actually be easier to start from scratch so they could build in support for new technologies. I don't know if its hugely uncommon or not though. I simply think there's no point for the CoD guys to bother changing the engine because they've proven that no matter what they do to the game, they'll still sell a bajillion copies. It'll run on brand power alone for a while yet, I reckon. BF3 will still be a different game to the next CoD; I'm sure they'll still be significantly different in MP and cater to different tastes! |
It handles current DX11 easily. afaik most games with DX11 atm don't actually utilise all the features of it, so it's a big call saying that Rdizz. If you want to see something using all the features of DX11, grab the Heaven benchmark, or 3d mark 2011. My 5970 handles both of those pretty awesomely even when they're cranked right up, so I'm imagining it wouldn't have trouble with any DX11 games I throw at it. Actually, I'd recommend anyone with a DX11 capable card grab those two benchmark programs, even if you're not interested in the benchmarking aspect, it gives you a nice look at what DX11 can do. |
I dont get all the talk ITT about no multiplayer. WTF ?
This is from the official BF3 site. Unparalleled Vehicle Warfare — The best online vehicle warfare experience gets even better with a fitting sonic boom as fighter jets headline an impressive lineup of land, air and sea vehicles. Other returning fan favourite features include 64 players for PC and prone |
I always thought the recent COD games used the exact same engine cause each release felt exactly the same but with new maps and remote control car..

just downloaded and watched in hi def. This is worth upgrading for.

Jesus! imagine what it will be like in 5 years.... we will be playing games that look so real you wont be able to tell the difference between game graphics and real photo quality!!!
Cant wait for the controversy!!!!!! :) |
I can't wait for virtual reality... the technology must be getting close.
|
Jesus! imagine what it will be like in 5 years.... we will be playing games that look so real you wont be able to tell the difference between game graphics and real photo quality!!!when you see me with a backpack and gun SPRINTING between buildings, you'll just KNOW it's a game. |
Didn't battlefield 2 have these awesome "in game cinematic quality visuals" in the trailers, then when it came out, it was like "yeah its ok i guess"?
|
Haha, they've already said they're having multiplayer, unless your living under a rock, it's been in gaming news for a month or so now. Indeed The smear of blood on your goggles as that guy gets sniped, awesome. Little details like that really impress me |
Haha notice that they had a part where the guys all jumped off a cliff... like COD.

Note: If you put your country as aus you can't watch it. |
Here, a better embed, and HD if you go into youtube.

so awesome.
note: it didn't ask me what country I was in, only my age. |
Embed looks busted for me, but thanks for the heads up Rusta. I've started a new thread for this one.
