Avalanche Studios and Square Enix have released the promised playable demo for Just Cause 2 a month ahead of it's "April 2010" Australian release date.
PC gamers can find this one on Steam; Update: A local download is now available here on AusGamers (542MB) - it's also Windows 7/Vista only (sorry XP users). Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners should also be able to locate it on their respective online services. The Just Cause 2 demo features a massive 35 square miles of the Lautan Lama Desert, a vast expanse of stunning, sun-scorched scenery taking up just one of the many islands in the 400 square miles of the Panau archipelago. Packed with towns, villages, military installations, mountain ranges, missions and more, the demo will feature an astonishing amount of activities for the player... and opportunities for adrenaline-fuelled chaos are limitless. The demo will cost you about 1.2GB of download quota and disk space. If that's not enough, check out this developer diary video explaining some of the PC exclusive features including 3D-vision support. Update: A local download is now available here on AusGamers. |
Was I reading a thread on here not long ago that this would only run on Windows 7? Or am I thinking of something else?
Don't wanna chrew through 1.2g to find that out. :-( |
Its kind of fun like the first one but not enough for me to buy it at full price. Also for anyone that wants to know there is a plane if u go straight after u base jump for a while. To the right of that big house further down.
|
K so just got this demo and it has crashed about 15 times now simply will not load into game. Anyone else had issues?
|
Nah, works fine. Had fun shooting the huge cranes and SAM sites with a minigun I detached from its mount.
|
Yea I set every tingle thing to minimum and it loaded, somethings not agreeing with it.

Turn down the water simulations, they require PhysicsX and are a huge FPS drain on any system...even when there is no water around.
Also when gliding down a road hold the grapple button on a car to paraglide. http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/8389/1267799717050.gif EDIT: Also turn off high res shadows, and put SSAO on low. You wont notice the difference, but your GFX card will. Everything else, High. last edited by Lynx at 02:25:58 06/Mar/10 |
Ok just played this game and while the voice overs are so cringe-worthy, the gameplay is f***** FUN. Seriously. Being able to parachute around and grapple hook onto anything is brilliant. Being able to go predator style hooking from tree to tree (oddly more predator than what the last game was) is so epic. Very worth of my money this game seems to be.

Downloading. Thanks for the heads up.

f*** them for not supporting xp Yeah, I'm in the same boat. :( Oh well. No dev shop supports windows 98 these days, right? |
Ok, I guess many of you want to keep playing the demo without stop, so I'm going to tell you how to disable the demo timer.
First up you need Cheat Engine 5.6, Google it. Next, boot up the game and leave the starting area so the timer starts ticking. Pause the game with F1 and alt tab out, then boot up cheat engine. Click on the button in the top left hand side of the window to choose the process to monitor. Select JustCause2.exe On the drop down menu select Unknown Initial Value and set the value type to 4 bytes. Click First scan, once done, tab back into the game. Note the current demo time in seconds* Unpause the game and wait for a few seconds, then pause with F1 again, note how many seconds the timer has decreased by. Alt Tab back to Cheat Engine 5.6 and change the scan type to increase by... (yes increase, not decrease, the devs tried to hide the value from these kinds of programs) Enter in how many seconds have changed, then click Next Scan. The number of found values should decrease. Tab back into the game and unpause for more time noting how many seconds pass each time. Tab back and forth entering how much time passes into cheat engine and clicking Next Scan to narrow the addresses down until there is 1 remaining. This is the address for the demo timer. Double click on it to add it to the (currently empty) bottom list. Right click on it and Freeze the value. Tab back into the game, you now have infinite time to cause mayhem. If you are clever you can also freeze your ammo and grenades too. Infinite ammo! Health though is a little weird, I managed to freeze my health but there are between 8 and 12 addresses tied to health. You will have to redo the demo timer each time you boot the game, as the address is randomized. Though it often (90%) begins with 1A5 last edited by Lynx at 22:36:24 06/Mar/10 |
wtf ctd? It's not a boycott.
I'm glad, even though XP is still popular the more games devs that say "f*** XP" the faster it'll die and it won't need to be supported. |
Turn down the water simulations, they require PhysicsX and are a huge FPS drain on any system...even when there is no water around. I eventually narrowed it down to the Bokeh filter and/or the GPU water sim stuff, either will crash me. I have an E8400, 4GB RAM, GTX 275 on 195.62 drivers, Win 7 x64 Ultimate OS. f*** them for not supporting xp Why don't you just play it on your precious Xbox? |
f*** them for not supporting xp Why would they? XP was released 9 years ago and windows 7 is just as good for gaming. Why not just upgrade? |
Ran really well on my comp, E8500 + 8GB Ram + Win7 Pro 64bit.
Game is pretty interesting but not gripping. Good for a muck-around. Don't think I'd buy it. It seems polished though for a game of this complexity (in particular, the complexity of the physics system). I didn't have any problems getting stuck, or experience any bugs - which you'd expect in a game like this. This would be good coop, but that's not happening. Overall it seems to be like a more interesting version of Mercenaries 2. |
I was dissapointed that the game has no penetration, even thru weak wood. but oh wells.
|
Why would they? maybe because the majority of people still use xp. so they are losing a lot of potential customers. |
link to credible sources of your comment please :P |
according to the feb steam hardware survey, 40.33% of all steam users are using windows xp.
http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/ |
Wow really? Most steam users still have XP? Didn't expect that. Guess that shut me up. I still don't see why people just don't upgrade though. If your pc is good enough to run this game anyway then it's certinaly good enough to run windows 7
|
i have win7 but im waiting until i upgrade to install it.
|
When did 40% become greater than 50%? More people are using Vista or 7.
|
How does one access the black market? I get messages popping up when ever I complete missions, but i can't find it and it doesn't seem to be marked on the map.
|
When did 40% become greater than 50%? More people are using Vista or 7. xp is most popular at 40%. the other 60% is made up of all the other OSes available. |
I dunno if THIS is the black market but pushing 4, then enter (if I remember right) sends a chopper down with a supply drop of the items you ordred, cars and s*** included
|
Lynx's method works a treat. Thanks.
|
I didn't have any problems getting stuck But if you did just could just grapple right out! |
xp is most popular at 40%. the other 60% is made up of all the other OSes available. So in other words, you agree that most people aren't using XP? |
played the demo last night and my honest opinion is that it didnt seem as good as the first game.
|
this game is the bomb!!! i loved grapple hooking everything haha was so epic and going around in parachute ^^. Worth every cent IMO, loved this game.nair for men
