We have a casual, entry level job going at AusGamers that we're hoping to fill in the next couple of weeks, helping out around the place by managing some of the content services like files, videos, etc and performing other useful tasks like holding my frozen margaritas so my hands stop getting so cold.

Offering to the forum readers so you guys can get in first. I'm hoping we might get lucky and there's a student-type at UQ that meets the requirements and has an interest in contributing!

Assistant Editor Role (Casual)

Mammoth Media is looking for an Assistant Editor for our Indooroopilly, Brisbane office to help manage our rapidly growing pool of online content and drive new growth for our online content services, including AusGamers.com.

This is an entry level role that offers a great opportunity for anyone looking to start a career in video games or online journalism. The role will have a strong focus on the sourcing, management and publishing of online content and all issues relating to it.

This is a casual role with flexible hours and would suit a university student. Initially it is expected to be 10-20 hours per week but there will be periods of more activity.

Your duties will include:
- Researching and writing news posts and articles relating to online games and technology
- Copywriting, proof-reading, and publishing content from other contributors.
- Liaising with game developers and publishers to source new and original content
- Management of various content systems, including videos and downloadable files

Position requirements:
- A near-obsessive interest in video games, preferably across all platforms
- An interest in the creative and editorial processes of games and online journalism
- Solid understanding of current online trends and technology, including social networks, searching, RSS
- Excellent written communication skills
- Ability to work comfortably with a team and occasionally strike out on your own
- Sound technical skills operating on a PC, including basic word processing, simple image editing, and file management. Good working knowledge of common Internet applications like FTP.
- Working knowledge of HTML a very big plus.
- Exposure to Linux at some level a very big plus (basic shell navigation, common command line applications like wget).

If you are interested, please email us at jobs0508 /at/ ausgamers.com with the subject "Assistant Editor Job Application" (and if you are /really/ interested, please follow those instructions exactly as they will serve as an interesting baseline for your ability to follow instructions :)

Any other questions, ask here.

It'd be something i'd go for if i was after an entry level position, even if i didn't want a career in video gaming (haha) or journalism.

Besides, don't think Trog would want to employ me anyway. He probably thinks IRL i'm really rude and unprofessional due to the online persona i have created for myself.

I better start conducting myself in a professional manner in case other jobs come up!

Regards and Ta Ta. Good day, sir.

Hmmm. I'd so apply if my journalism skills were better, but the only experience I have in the gaming industry is studying modelling/animation.

Besides, as much as I love games from all systems, I'm also incredibly biased, which is never a good thing when you're trying to write for a site like this :(

Well I would love this job only because I love gaming and have been playing since i was 9. I have a understanding of HTML plus ive been on ausgamers for 11-12 years. Always did well in english at school.

Would I qualify? im 24 and not working atm. Pay wouldnt really matter that much for me I just wouldn't mind doing something productive with my time.

But I know what you mean, everything has it positives and negatives, and it's ignorant to dismiss a positive based on personal taste. Honestly though, if I was given a game I don't like playing I'd be more inclined to focus on the aspects of said game that drive me away.

Re-reading though, looks like there won't be any actual reviewing... Maybe I'll take a stab and apply? It's a step in the door towards my personal career goal, Albeit a very minor and only slightly related one, but a step none the less.
