This is a serious post, it is not a joke. Please to be directing flames and abuse at irc.enterthegame.com #Melrose. Keep this thread clean and constructive and i'll attempt to answer as many mature questions as I can.
I think the best way to start this post is just coming out with it. I'm becoming a girl. As is the case with the majority of others in my position, it all began as long as i can remember. I've always thought i was a girl, and in due course, i suffered great personal torment and suffering when puberty rolled around and confirmed my worst fears. School wasn't terribly kind either. Not knowing what to say or how to act, i got the gay label and couldn't shake it off. Ridicule constantly followed me around so none of the girls would talk to me, and that was the worst thing to grow up with, no other girls to talk to. So i fell in with the less manly, more open minded crowd at school, and slowly learned how to "pretend" to be just another boy. How do i view this? It's a birth defect. I got the wrong chromosomes at the start and now i'm paying for it. I have all the genetic code and information to be the way i'm supposed to be, however those chromosomes and the following hormones dictate the rules. This is why i can go onto Hormone Replacement Therapy and reverse the process. Of course I can't reverse the damage testosterone has already done to my body, but a bit of care and a course of female hormones will smooth off the rough edges and actually leave a socially passable image. You've all seen Miriam? She's at the top end of the spectrum for transition. Of course there's worse by-products but it's nothing like you may or may not be thinking. The gravelly voice, the wig, the bad stubble, the manly features... all of these things you will find on TransVESTITES, not Transsexuals. Most people who go through with this process will be barely recognisable from before, unless they're built like Arnie and really shouldn't be doing this in the first place. I already have girly features and somewhat of a figure, so the end result won't actually be too scary. Some minor facial surgery may be in order at some point, but it's not mandatory at the moment. It'll most likely be a nosejob and a laser resurfacing of my face to kill the acne scars. Makeup covers those anyway. As per doctor's orders i've been out in girly clothing and playing the part, but otherwise crossdressing isn't my thing. Chemical help first, then living as a girl. I'm not delusional or psycho, i'm simply correcting something that went wrong so long ago. Gender Dysphoria is a recognised medical "condition" in about 1/20th of the population, some people make the journey to fix what went wrong, others are usually driven to suicide by their daily conflicting thoughts. Strangely enough i've been recently diagnosed with this Gender Identity Disorder after seeing the appropriate specialists about it. So to keep the length down for the ADHD sufferers, i'll finish it up here. I've been going through the government health system for the last 6 months, and have seen numerous specialists to confirm what i'm doing is the right thing. I've been on Testosterone Blockers for 3 months, and in another month i'll have my Oestrogen. 12 Months from January you can expect to see a picture of the final result for those interested. For those that are really interested, forget it, i don't like boys. (yes i've had extra problems with the psych because i'm not gay) |

Would you start to see the world in a different light, like from a chicks perspective? Would you lose interest in chicks? Lose interest and not pay attention when a hot girl walks past. You are born with a blank slate, your environment, interactions, EVERYTHING from the word go to where you are now influences how your brain develops and constructs itself (including hormones which effect how you act which in turn effects actions and reactions of your surroundings)...
Basically, every action has a reaction and every reaction has a subsequent action. Your brain constructs itself and interacts within itself, bringing consciousness and 'decisions' (or are they really decisions since your actions/decisions are already pre-determined by the structure of your brain).. How you plan on changing from being brought up as a male to switching to a female I'm not sure. The problem is, you're brain isn't really fully developed until 25+, at this stage emotions, thoughts and personality become alot more stable, after that, it's going to be hard going to 're-wire' your subconscious thought process... If that makes any sense... If not, think of it this way, your brain grows just like every other part of your body, and how it grows is determined by your everyday interactions (As a foundation: genetics and some hormonal), once it matures, it isn't going to change much in a hurry. Think of it like an electronic circuit in a remote control, you can't wire it up to say forwards is forwards, then suddenly want forwards to be backwards without taking it apart and reconstructing it. I dunno how the hell hormones would change your -thought process-, it may change how you -feel- about certain situations (due to hormonal changes), but beh... wahtever dude, I can only see the psychological factor in how this works... You're male, and think you want to be female (or want to be - whatever), causes you psychologically to be unhappy, you transgender and now you -think- you're happy because psychologically you've gotten what you thought you wanted. Kind of akin to 'convincing' yourself of something, if you tell yourself something often enough, you'll start to believe it. Chromosomes? Dude, I think it's a psychological issue, my understanding is that chromosomes are a bunch of self-replicating genetic structures of cells which all contain the cellular DNA that holds in its nucleotide sequence, the linear array of genes, meaning if you had a 'faulty' set of chromosomes, you'd end up with 'diseases/disabilities' for example, Downs syndrome is a genetic defect of chromosome 21, where they have THREE chromosomes instead of a PAIR, it causes things like mental retardation, slanted eyes, short fingers etc. etc.

I'd say the odds are that this would be an inherited genetic thing. You 'learn from your actions', if you were beaten and abused as a child, you would [and this is speculation but we can all probably look at it and say "yes, that's true"] live a very different life than if you had non-abusive parents (i.e. different personality).. That's not to say better or for worse. Would you be the same person if you have completely different friends? you might think so, but you probably wouldn't be, you would think and act differently. Your environment causes you to take action, your action has a reaction, and you learn from that. I know I for one can't remember much or anything as a 'child' but I know everything that happened has probably HELPED (helped being key) create who I am today (it flattened out the land), early teens started the concrete foundation, late teens started building the house on top and finally 20's - 30's will add all the bricks and tiles I like to it. [you basically find your 'personality/behavioural regime' which makes you happiest]... If you live for everyone else's expecations of who you should be, you will be unhappy. The thing I'd be concerned about is if you go down this road and it still hasn't made you happy. You should do something like someone else suggested in this thread before taking such a leap of faith I think. Break out of your current regime, quit work, move house, travel the world.. Whatever it takes, ANY of those options are far easier to re-couperate the losses than retrieving your gender back. Hehe nah seriously brash move. I saw some doco on this a while back and what ppl are saying about doctors rushing in to make him a woman is bulls***. For starters there is a huge process involved with phychiatrists etc and then he has to live as a woman for awhile before he can get any irreversable treatment. Also if this was just a sick fetish "i want to be a girl so i can play with boobies whenever i feel like it" i really doubt that he'd go through all the trouble of being riduculed - i mean imagine rocking up to work one day as a different gender - thats gotta be a lil f***ed up :P |

IMHO as far as the law is concerned he should be 'classed' as a female simply because that is how he wants to be classed. It doesn't make any differnece to the law either way and it would cut down on a lot of confusion. As far as science is concerned, maybe not but then will you be able to class him as a man? He will never be a woman to us because our perception has already been affected but for someone that has never met him before might have a completely different perception once the procedure is complete. same way they pay for doctors to continually treat any other mental patientthats correct, but the treatment is psychological treatment, not physical treatment in order to satisfy their psychological problems. I got no problems with health insurance or medicare covering any therapy as you clearly need it, but they shouldn't pay for physical enhancements or adjustments. As they ARE elective and unneccessary. |

Yeah its the presence of atleast one Y chromosome that determines your sex, atleast your genotypic sex.
Its presence switches on the code for maleness, though the code itself isn't actually on the Y chromosome. Male hormones make you a man, and if there is a problem with those signal pathways (low androgen production, faulty detectors), you default to female. Dosing up on female hormones themselves won't make you female, its more the lack of male hormones or something preventing thier detection. Thats why things don't get messed up when you are gestating in your mum and shes hopped out on hormones, but chicks who take androgen like drugs get pretty manly fast. Also, chicks who work out lots (like olympic atheletes) can up-regulate their androgen production without outside influence and halt their menstrual cycle and so forth. |

I've basically stuck to a couple gigs a month out with friends, so i have something substantial to show to the psych that i'm serious when january rocks around. (for those that missed it, it will be my last eval, i've passed everything else, he's just concerned i haven't been crossdressing enough... idiot) When i actually start looking like a chick with a bit of effort and pills, then i'll be going out more on a day-to-day basis... getting used to stuff and generally getting a feel for things. To date: my little outings have felt a little nervous, but not dangerous. I found 80% of the comments and reactions were good, some even really really good =D That's not too bad considering what i look like now. When did you actually decide you wanted to become a "woman". I decided i wanted to match the body to the mind in about april or thereabouts. I'd been talking to another girl about the whole process, and what made her switch and the like. Basically i was relating more and more to her, so i had to find out wtf exactly was going wrong. I did my research and found out that i was suffering this rare disorder (from early childhood, as long as i can remember) and so i researched more and made some appointments to see the relevant specialists. Very basically, i had all this made up in my mind when i was 6, which is my first memory of thinking i actually was a girl, playing with the other girls. I only found out exactly what was going on recently. Noone talked me into this, nor were any suggestions or hints dropped. It's just something that's always been, and will be. |

Maybe one or two on that page looked passable but really when you see the total package, movements and mannerisms in real life, I reckon it would be fairly safe to guess 'something not quite right' with this girl. Some of the 'women' on that site just cry out 'man' immediately. That Roxanne, the one you reckon you might end up looking like, well when you have a look at her gallery, some of the parties she has pics posted from its painfully obvious these are guys dressed up a girls. Bone structure?, s*** one of them look like a prop! I think the bottom line is in their head they beleive they are women and I guess it doesn't matter to them that they look so blokey and strange. They probably beleive they look great. Same way a person suffering from anorexia 'believes' they are still overweight even with the end product looking back at them from a mirror. Still they all look pretty happy in the pics and they are seeking out their own kind to mingle with so I guess thats all that counts. Plus any guy who knows the 'girls' history and still wants a relationship with them also has big issues IMO. |

Just going from what you've said... you ARE a female, but your body was born male... There are others like you whose bodys were born male, but ARE female. Well, I for one am neither for it nor against it. I only know Einstein because we worked together for a short while, so I don't know him enough to care either way.
However, these people posting that he should die on the operating table and other equally as bad statements should all f*** off. With the absolute malice spewing forth out of some people's mouths, anyone would think Einstein was trying to have sex, with them!! Honestly, if he chooses to follow through with the operation, no one has to live with it but himself. I can understand that people would think that by posting this on an internet forum that he was grandstanding or otherwise being an attention whore, and those comments may be valid, but there is absolutely NO reason for the viscious replies that some people seem to only be capable of making. If you don't agree with the idea, stay out of the thread maybe? As I said, I am impartial and only post to air my concerns with certain people's lack of common courtesy. I know this forum can be a tough crowd sometimes, but this has to be an all time low. Flame with if you will, but I have 4 kids and a nagging wife, so it's water off a ducks back to me. Give manhood a chance. I know I jest a lot , and I am no way near as threatening as some post in this thread..but truly. I have a mate and he's gay/bi-sexual ect...he's 50 yrs old and that's the lifestyle he's chosen. But he really is the 'most alone' person I know, he has flings every now, hangs out with people of the same ilk ect. and basically he has 'convinced' himself that he is happy, when its obvious to all his true friends that he is really a sad and lonely person. I really think if you worked hard at this you might be able to recover and build on what you seem destined to throw away. I met you a couple of times back in the days when lans were happening and you seemed to be a pretty normal ok type of guy really. Find that person within yourself and build on that foundation. S*** it would be easier to accept if you came 'out' and and said you're gay. I can't for the life of me see anyone who changes gender being anything but ultimately gay in the end really. I've had a few drinks and its hard to type but really this is something I just cant seem to get a grip on. If someone wants to be gay fine, but if someone is so mixed up they want to be female just to be gay then that is reallly confusing. I know you linked to and outlined the medical explanation of this condition but sometimes I really think the medical world 'creates' conditions just to explain an abnormality in the population spread.. What would Freud have said? Conditioned response?..family upbringing? mother syndrome? I don't think anything I have offered or have to offer will change your mind, only you can do that..but I still reckon with better counselling and better medical guidance you could overcome this desire to be a woman. Maybe its a strong desire to 'belong' and be accepted by a group, like the goths and punks ad nauseum, but if you can see past the initial 'coolness' of being part of a certain type of sub-culture you might just see past that flimsy world and realise that the real world is much more appealing. Khel and psycho have pretty much started me on what I wanted to finally say.
Despite the fact that you and your life are totally removed from mine, this somehow still affects me. I won't go through any of the MASSIVE hardship you're going to have to go through if you go right through with this, or feel the effects that EVERYONE around you will have to deal with, but I still can't help feeling almost shattered at what one of my own kind is going to go through. That's something I can relate to. I know plenty of people have gone through this sort of thing, and I've never cared before. It's so easy to cast it aside as just whacky f***ed up people in the US for example... Jerry Springer style. But that's exactly what it has always been - more or less fiction... despite the fact that I KNOW this sort of s*** goes on, it's in a basket of non-reality. Part of the world per se, but not part of realreality, (the reality that I know...). But to see it unfold (almost) first hand, to see what opinions and thoughts you have right from the start of this process, it's really quite a surreal thing. It's very similar to news of death. When there's large tradgedies and the likes, it doesn't affect me. Train wreck - 30 people die. meh, don't care. World trade centre - 3000 people die. the actual deaths - couldn't really care less (as harsh as it sounds...). The event was mind blowing, and struck me in a profound way, but the actual deaths didn't seem to play a part in the amazement of the whole event in my mind. Earthquake in Turkey - 30,000 people die. I don't batt an eyelid. even seeing mass turmoil on the news, watching mothers wail over their dead daughters, it hardly strikes a nerve with me. And it's because none of these sort of events seem real to me. Of course if I experienced anything like it first hand it would be a different story, but without that, these sort of tradgedies are just so inconceivable that my mind seemingly involutarily gives them little credibility. If I don't take a step back and really think, hey that actually happened, and try to fathom the sort of scale of personal loss that thousands of people are feeling, it just seems as though I can't automatically give it the same label of reality that I give everything else in my life, and in that respect, it doesn't affect me because it's effectively not real.... (as far as I'm concerned) But as soon as you hear news of 1 person dying, just 1, it jolts me so much more. I've not had anyone close to me die, relatives, friends, or family, so I don't know the true pain that some feel, but the point is that I can conceive it. Mother dies in car crash when she falls asleep at the wheel. - that could be my mum. Teenager dies when he jumps off the victoria bridge for fun in a drunken state. - that could be my best mate. Bloke dies after a kick to the face in a pub brawl. - that could be my brother. I can easily conceive of things like these affecting ME, and even just glimpsing the pain that I would feel, the pain that someone just like me IS feeling, is upsetting enough, even though it's still not affecting me. You may think I've gone way off topic, but not at all. The way I'm feeling: 1. not only is this whole topic similar to my thoughts on death in so far as I can actually relate to your position, (you're an actual real person that I have seen express individual opinion, not just another one on the jerry springer yank fiction pile. you could be my best mate, my brother, my son, me...), but 2. The way I feel about you doing this is almost identical to the loss I feel for others when close ones to them die. Now I'm not abusing you at all here, I'm not trying to make petty constructive comments, nor am I wishing you good luck and telling you that I hope you'll be happy. I don't feel any such emotion, I don't think any of these positions would serve any purpose, and I don't think any one of these positions is warranted. Although this post serves no ultimate purpose; it is not constructive or encouraging, and I doubt will sway your desicion even in the slightest; for some reason I just felt it necessary that I must say something to convey my unexpectedely strong emotions about your mindset. After milling on it for a few days, it's not of disgust,or amusement, or hate, or bewilderment, but of sadness. A deep sadness that I can only relate to the thought of someones death. The death of someones friend. Trying to imagine deciding on doing this my self, or imagining one of my close friends telling me this is what they've decided to do - just trying to glimpse what would go through my mind and the minds of everybody around me is just so unreal, that despite you and I having lives totally removed from each other, I can't help but be taken by some strange sence of remorse and depression at the thought of what you're doing to your mind, and at the thought of the irriversible travesty you're going to allow to your body. Even though there's a fair way to go, i feel remorse because it doesn't seem anything can dissuade you, and the wheels are already in motion. I can't find anything positive in this, and couldn't possibly wish more that you didn't go through with this for some reason that isn't yet apparant to you and would be enough to stop you or change your mind. For me, reading this is just as saddening as someone announcing plans to kill themselves. |

I understand your reasons. But isn't it possible you need to examine your emotional responses? I think I've made it obvious that I know they are real people, and their suffering is just as real. I've only used extreme wording in my examples like that to convey as best I could what I was getting at.
Beside the point... but let me elaborate. lets say your mum dies quake-one. how distraught would you be? for how long? what about your brother dying, or your best friend? I know that if my mum brother or mate, or anyone close to me died, I would be unconsollable for months. Now when you watch the news and see that x thousand people in x country have died due to x happening, do you go into mourning for them? Do you treat every person seperately and mourn for them individually? I put it to you that you don't. Most people will shake their heads a few times and mutter how unfair life can be (not unsincerely or mocking), and then get back to their daily routines. watching the next tv show. eating dinner. This is not people being insensitive, but it is just not within our experience. And as much as we'd like to say that we're not controlled by our environment, we are to quite a large degree. If something is out of our experience, it cannot be readily accepted as normal. When I see some natural disaster has killed x thousand people, I feel for the victims, but not in the same way I feel for individuals that die. 30,000 people dying is made up of individuals, yes, but I can't put faces on them. I can't see what individual characters have been lost. 30,000 people dying almost just looks like a number in my head. It's hard to put a visual representation on what's been lost... Of course I can comprehend what has happened, but unfortunately due to the limited experience in our life up untill this moment, one cannot easily relate to such large differences to what we're used to. As a result, you can hear that sort of news and have forgotten about it in a week. Quite simple. That sort of thing doesn't happen where we live, so when it does happen elsewhere, it doesn't have the same effect on us as our day to day experiences do. It's not part of OUR realitly for that sort of thing to happen.... so in THAT sense, it's almost not real.... try not to take everything so literally. All I was trying to say is that when individuals die, we can easily relate to it. At least I can. But when huge numbers of people die, it has less effect on me because there's no name and face to that number. That's something we can't relate to very easily. Clearly the more people that die the worse... but that doesn't mean that your emotions will act accordingly. This was all very much beside the point. What I was trying to say is this: In absolutely no way do I greet Melissa's news as I would the death of someone known to me. The thought of 3000 people dying in New York is far and away more distressing than is the revelation of Melissa's decision. News is designed to make you feel like you care. It's called the news narrative. Notice how it starts with something local/national to get you in the mode, something you can relate to. Then you go off to iraqe to see some blankets placed over some dead bodies or something. You shake your head, sigh, or let out a big "fff-iretr-uuuuuuuuuuck...". The news then switches back to your "safe zone", which is domestic news like boring political stuff, or some crappy feel good story about some inbred kid getting his puppy back. The fact of the matter is, YOU DON'T ACTUALLY GIVE A CRAP. Sure, any normal person slaps a "sad" label on it. S***, i'd give half my dinner to some poor african kid if i could, but i don't feel all that sad. |

I completely understand Einstein you may feel you are compelled to do this. I would not use figure of $25k as a negative. That is f*** all money.
The major problem is that it would be an irreversible decision. And you would be moving from a state certainty to a complete state of limbo. You may say that by having the operations etc you are clarifying your gender/sexuality issues but in fact you will be just confusing them more. Probably the most relevant observation I have read so far is that, although you think it will bring you satisfaction, it is a "fool's gold". Much like people who win the lotto thinking all that money will solve their life of poverty and misery. Everybody has that "thing" in their life that annoys them but we all have our cross to bear. Please go back and read this thread. Then proceed to the somethingawful forums and read over 800 posts. Now, when you've read all of both forums, you can come back into this thread THEN tell me i'm making a mistake.You posted on qgl to stop the gossip right?? umm then why post on SA?? Gimmick maybe?? I've been reading this thread on and off and it seems like you think you will be happy once you've had this procedure and that you don't really care what other people will think. But what other people think will affect you whether you like it or not. Someone said something about when you apply for a job and get rejected because of what you are. Regardless of discrimination laws people are always going to judge you. Do you think you will really be happy when the only job you will be able to find is cleaning toilets at the Wickham for the rest of your life? You must have other aspirations other than becoming a female. There are other things in life that will affect you whether you like it or not. And if you can not find a job that you like what will you do? Do nothing and live of society for the rest of your life? It seems that your 18k fix is only the beginning of the costs that tax payers will have to bear.
If you really have to do it you should go to Thailand and become a ladyboy. |

I was just reading the sunday paper, because i forgot to on sunday, and came accross an article on page 50 about children as young as 3 beggining the process that einstein is going through, just because they either

im not sure about the whole cloning thing, but if you cloned someone im assuming its only the body that is cloned not the mind/personality/anything that makes the person themselves rather than their image. At the most fundamental level he is still male and can never stop being male. His DNA i.e. blueprint for his body (and to a certain extent his personality) will still be male and the clone will be physically male. There are some studies that show when identical twins are separated at birth (which used to happen a fair bit) and raised in completely different environments they often have very similar personalities. Basically that indicates that a clone is probably predisposed to having a similar personality to the original. |

I already have a job and just recently received a promotion which includes a pay rise. I think i'm doing well enough thanks. There's also plenty of opportunity to move further upwards within this company into various different departments and aspects, wether they be in the public eye or not. Either aspect of public or private employment within this company pays about the same amount. Either on manager rates as a Supervisor in public, or more days per week in the workshop and R&D Division.

Except for this one: Melissa, Simply going down to the registrar and having my name changed by deed poll. After it's approved by a judge then i just go to relevant parties who have my details and inform them that i have had my name changed. Bank institutions, centrelink, my place of employment, phone companies and the like. Then i go down to the Department of Transport and also inform them I have changed my name and would like to get another license and updated photo. Usually there's no problem in ticking the F box, it's not that important. As for my passport regarding international travel, it is fully illegal to tick the F box until AFTER the SRS. Pretty easy compared to a lot of other stuff. Oh and while i'm at it, i'd like to take the opportunity to tell boxhead: You're an idiot, quit your job while you still have some of your mind left. |

Ive tried to find out what happened to him/her lately but I lost contact with a lot of people when I moved to Townsville about 5 years ago.....never got back in contact with em when I moved to Brissy.....most of em are in Sydney and the main hangout we had back then was a Telnet "talker" called Forest.
