Quake 1 Servers.

Greetings All,

If there are any old school Quake 1 players around that would like a gibbing from time to time, 3 new NetQuake servers have been setup in Australia.

Please note that this is NetQuake - not QuakeWorld (Netquake being the protocol that Quake originally shipped with 20 years ago).

The focus on play is beginner friendly (Not competition based - No bunny hopping, full bright textures etc.) FFA.

If you own the original game or the steam version - the best Netquake client to use these days would be the DX9 based extension of ProQuake here
http://quakeone.com/markv/

Download and drop the executable into your quake directory, pull down the console and use the connect (server:port) command for the following addresses.

satan.chickenkiller.com:26000 < RUNE Quake FFA / RA / Head Hunters.
satan.chickenkiller.com:26001 < CRMOD Quake FFA
satan.chickenkiller.com:26002 < RUNE Quake PLUS .

The CRMOD server is standard deathmatch, the RUNE servers are running the Rune Quake mod.
If you connect to the RUNE servers you need to bind some keys to make use of the runes and the grappling hook.

You need to bind keys to the commands rune-use / rune-delete / +hook

So bring down the console and do a "bind (desired key) command" where key is the key you want and command is the command above.

i.e. bind e +hook will bind the e key to the grappling hook. etc.

Netquake doesn't have the ability to download custom content to the client like Quake World does and the servers are running some non standard maps so you can grab the map pack at https://www.dropbox.com/s/a0tm2por5jlsns8/maps.rar?dl=0 and unrar the map .bsp files into your Quake/id1/maps directory before connecting.

Hope to see you around - Dozer.

Nice one man - it's a blast from the past for sure!

Player counts are sketchy but hopefully we can organise something on a semi regular basis with a few of us as I've seen a few people connect to the servers over the past few days while I've been at work since posting this.

There are obviously a few of us old and crusty types still about! :)

Not currently but if the player count gets up there I can deploy one pretty easily.

This is awesome dude, might need to fire this up for some old school fun. Severed 2 would be another awesome mod to have a look at. Not sure if any of the TLG guys are still around here, but that was an awesome piece of work.

Drop in man - the more the merrier!. I spent some time during the week setting up a CTF server with the original 3 Wave CTF and the CRMOD running on top of it. It needs a good player base though to make it worthwhile deploying but it's ready should we need it.

There's a forum at deathmatch.chickenkiller.com where you can organise a match via the calendar feature or drop into the IRC channel to see if anyone is about.

It's quiet at the moment but hopefully we'll get some more old folks over :)
