Foxconn intern claims PS4 was sabotaged during manufacturing

The intern noted that because Foxconn didn’t treat them well, they didn’t treat the PS4 well. Stating: “The ps4 console we assemble can be turned on at best.” which may explain the pulsing blue light issues that many people have experienced, mainly on Amazon shipments where about 33% of the total verified reviewers have reported the issue.

Interesting. I wonder what the failure rate is, Sony is reporting 0.4% failure rate - I wonder if that's actually true or not?? Very curious. Mine bloody well better turn on when I get it home next Friday ;)

I find this a bit hard to believe, Just knowing that Foxconn assembled it is enough for me to go "No wonder some are DOA". I don't think the employee's need to be motivated in to doing a s*** job with such s*** working conditions to begin with.

I think he's saying it's hard to believe it's sabotage, but it's not hard to believe something assembled by Foxconn is DOA.

Yeh, Hanlon's razor still way out ahead on this one. I find it hard to believe that there was an organised effort to deliberately sabotage the production. Smells like BS to me.

it hasn't stopped people buying the console. over 1 million units were sold in the first 24hrs in NA. it's the first console to sell that many in a day.

What's even more impressive is that's only North America, I predict Xbone will pull similar numbers but spanning over more continents.

Dayum.

There I was thinking the lineup of launch titles was pretty poo...
I'm still semi-interested in getting in on day 1.

My bigger concern [Aussie Consumer rights has me covered if the console is a POS] is what 'Aussie-flavoured' SEN will look/feel/taste like.
PSN/SEN as it stands has bettered over the last 7 years, but knowing what it was at the start of the PS3's life, that really isn't difficult (and still has a lot of ground to cover IMO)

yeah, xbone is releasing in 13 countries then expanding to more in the new year. it will be interesting to see how many PS4's sell when released here and in europe in 2 weeks time.

also, here's a graph someone made on neogaf showing first month sale's data for console releases. ps4 blew everything out of the water.

To be fair, PS4 is the only console that's had more than 1 million consoles in stores at launch. PS3 had something like 400k for the US launch.

PS3 was also hideously expensive on launch, this is the first time they have ever been cost competitive at release.

But yeah it sucks that there is no penalty for supporting the sort of exploitation a lot of these factories are known for. The same companies that cry and moan when someone downloads a song are responsible for making products in factories with 16 hour shifts for school kids on "work experience".

Wish it had of just been $499/$549 for the PS4/Xbox One instead of the absurd $549/$599 bracket in Australia. Yeah sure rip us off, but at least do it nicely.

IVY, I have a feeling prices on SEN will be the same as they are now, i.e. stupidly overpriced. Also games weighing in at 35GB or so each is putting me off digital downloading which is annoying because it'd be nice to not bother with physical media.

I kind of wish we had the option to backup the digital library on to a hdd or something similar, much the same way that steam allows you to back up media.

Pretty sure someone did a breakdown mathematically and figured that the extra cost on top is actually pretty much entirely GST + fair enough shipping.

I don't think they're actually ripping anyone off at all, this time around. Now games companies on the other hand...

Not sure if you recall the 'Australia Tax' for the last gen Eorl, but for the extra $100 in this case I'll gladly accept the benefits of Australian consumer law (and 'alterations' to standard-type Warranties therein) Even moreso in the event that apparently the DOA Consoles in the states are apparently being replaced with 'refurbed' units [admittedly, not such a big deal given the to date life of the product].
Under Aussie Consumer law I can replace/repair/return within the first 30 days amongst a long list of other benefits.

I wasn't so much referring to the expense, more the packaging and delivery (with an emphasis on Delivery) The time it took to download updates in 'early PS3' days were astonishing for 130mb. You could fire up your PS3 and then start the update. Whilst that went on, you could then go to your PC (on the same net connection) download the PS3 update direct, burn it to disc and stick it in the PS3 in less than half the time it took PSN to just deliver the 130mb.

This is before you get started on market segregation too, games available on the EU/US store and not available on the Aussie one (not related to Ratings woes either)

If you work it out based on minimum wage in the US vs minimum wage in Australia we get a far better deal.

I worked out the math when the console was announced and posted in a thread which I haven't been able to locate using the sites search function.

Effectively when it comes to pricing it works out that the numbers of hours worked based on minimum wage to be able to afford an xbox is equal in most parts of the world... In Australia we have to work less hours to afford it based on our higher minimum wage..

Mmm guess so considering I remember the original PS3 gong for $1,000 on launch day. From memory I think we paid $400 for our PS2, I can't quite remember but seems like we are getting a good end it seems. Just wish games would actually come down in price but that won't happen any time soon. Wonder whether we will see cheaper sales on SEN...

Ivy, I've been reading from the NA gamers that download speeds and speed performance in general has gotten a lot better. UI speed as well is much more favourable, though the few videos I've seen still show the PS Store to have that slight bit of lag/delay. Apparently you can now download multiple files at once, instead of queuing them up and only downloading one at a time.
