Description:
Empire in the Sky is an independently developed PC video game set in a stylized 1960s-1980s retro cartoon universe with blatant and extensive references to NASA and other "Space Race" icons. Much of the data is modeled after real life, so you might even learn something! This is the "lava lamp" of space RPG shooters! Travel the cosmos in a fully customizable spacecraft -- designed by you (or us). Fight or befriend scores of alien civilizations in your quest to rule the cosmos, while exploring a rich, procedurally generated world that includes planets, planetary bases, towns, cities and starbases. Build a nearly limitless and vast empire that stretches across hundreds of star systems, on thousands of planets! Empire in the Sky optionally lets you build your own starbases and planetary bases, and enhance your designs by crafting individual spacecraft parts.

Developer Notes:

"Well, it's August 2012 and we've been testing our Alpha Demo for several weeks now.

We need your help! The game is stablized but may not work on every machine. This is tragic for those who want to play the game but can't! Help us catch our bugs early so Desura will offer it on their platform, and so the game works on the widest possible variety of game systems.

Requirements:

More than 2GB RAM
Fairly recent video card (NVIDIA / ATI)
OpenAL-compatible sound
At least 4GB hard drive space
Windows

We have some questions we need answers for:

Did it install correctly?
Did the game run correctly?
Did the game work correctly?
Did you like the game? If so, tell us why, if not, tell us why.
Do you have any ideas for improvements? If so, tell us!

If the answer to 1 or 2 are no, then the game crashed. If the game crashed, we want you to send us a special log file that will tell us more about the problem. You will run a special version of the game a second time, and it will execute the game but dump a log.txt which we'll need back from you. You deserve special Kudos for doing this.

Since this is a "scientific" venture, we need you to be precise! First, download and install the game.

If it doesn't install: stop. Send us whatever error messages appear. If it installs but then the game doesn't work, please run the special "EITS-Logger.exe" found in the game's installation directory. This will output a file "log.txt" to your "My Documents/EITS" directory, which you can then email us directly at empire.in.the.sky at gmail.com

Try it today!

Once installed, it takes about 2 minutes to load normally when the game is started. No reboot is required after installation.

Please have anyone who you give a copy of the demo to email me their machine specs, "how do I?" questions, error messages, or creative feedback.

Anybody who wants their name in the final version credits must send us an email telling us how they want their name to appear (nickname, or real name or both)

You may also want to watch our training videos"

What kind of computer will I need?

You will need a fairly fast computer, with a modern OpenGL-compatible graphics card, and an OpenAL-compatible sound card, and Microsoft Windows 7, to play the game. It does not need to be 64-bit, but will benefit enormously from it. Quad cores with 3.0Ghz will run the game fairly smoothly. The game makes extensive use of "version 3.x and above" features of OpenGL. We recommend downloading the demo and providing feedback including a sane description of your system along with a description of the problem if you encounter any issues including: game goes too fast, game does not go fast enough, game does not run at all, game is "jerky" or drops frames, game fails during load, game fails elsewhere. The game was developed on a quad core Intel CPU with an NVIDIA GPU ~5800 series, but has been tested periodically on other systems including ATI, Dual Core systems around 3-5 years old. We do not intend to extensively develop this, but we could there may be a "lo-fi" version available for those who can't play it on slightly older (2005+, Vista) systems, if there is demand for such a thing.
