Mark of Chaos Scenario Editor Readme File
==========================================

So, you've decided to embark on a little map customization, we'll it's no walk in the park, but with a few tips, we should have you creating some custom maps in no time.

First rule of the Scenario Editor is: it is an unsupported tool. So while there will be revisions to it to update it over time, unlike the game, we cannot predict when updates will happen for this tool, so enjoy it for what it is, a really powerful scenario editor that the developers themselves use to edit everything from terrain to unit behaviour. Also, we are light on Hungarian how-guides for this editor, and while I'm certain more detailed descriptions for how to use this tool will emerge from the developers at Black Hole and from the community that figures it out for themselves, we cannot say exactly when all of this will arrive.

The tool works like this:
You need to drop the "Editor.exe" and the "commands.trig" files into the root directory where you installed Warhammer Mark of Chaos (the same place the Warhammer.exe resides)

Within the Warhammer directory is a Scenario folder, and inside this is a Multiplayer folder. Within this Mutliplayer folder are the map files that actually show up when you play a Multiplayer game. This is where you will put your edited maps so that you can play them with friends.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not edit existing multiplayer maps in this directory, they will not edit properly, and you may overwrite an existing map and be unable to play that map online unless you reinstall.

You should create a working directory of the maps you are going to work on anywhere on your computer, I put them inside this folder in their own folder for quick access. Name it something catchy, like "Edit_Maps"

Next, you should copy the maps provided with this tool into this newly created folder on your computer. These maps are the only ones that will work with this editor, so be sure to edit them and not the game maps.

Once the maps and the two files mentioned above are in place, simply run the Editor tool by double clicking it inside your Warhammer root directory.

In the tool, go to the file menu at the top and choose "Open" then browse your way to the folder you created with all those maps you copied.

Choose any map from this folder.

NOTE:
Some of these maps allow AI Opponents, and others do not. FOr easy testing early on in your map making endeavors, choose one with AI opponents so you can test the maps by yourself. Here is a short list of maps that support AI opponents:

-- Castle of the Gods
-- General Conflict
-- Hightower
-- Killing Fields
-- Refill COnflict
-- Stielstand
-- Village in Squeeze

Once the map is loaded into the tool, you can move around in the map much like you do in the Game itself.
There are some buttons in the bottom right corner of this tool that let you manipulate the view in different ways (Rotate/Zoom/Pan) most of this is accessible from the mouse but if you need a specific type of movement, these may help out.

On the right is the command panel for the tool, here is where you do most of your work. Just below what looks like a minimap of the scenario are a series of tabs. These are the different categories of things you can edit.

The First Tab is terrain editing, this includes raising and lowering the terrain. Try this out and select an area of the map and drag up or down on the mouse while holding the right mouse button to see what it does. There are different brush options available here as well as other parameters which let you fine tune how you raise or lower the terrain.

For all tabs in the command panel, if you mouse over them and get a little hand cursor, you can drag up and down to see more options and tools available for that tab. For some tabs there are many more tools than can be displayed at once so experiment here and see what tools you like.

The Second tab is for painting the textures of the maps. Select this tab and then simply left click and drag around the terrain to see how you can paint it. There are different textures availabe in this tab to let you paint the terrain any way you want.

The Third Tab is for Selection, this is used to modify things that already exist in your world. There are many specialty tools here to let you tweak pathing as well as set some game specific features. There is an Arrow button at the top of this editor which performs the same function (this tab just provides more options for this selection)

The Fourth tab is Objects, which include everything from units to buildings and trees can be selected from the tab on the right panel and placed into the world using the left mouse click. The different objects are arranged on the command panel in a hierarchy, so click on the type of object you want and then click the littl + sign to open up that tree and see the specific objects available here. Select any object and them move the cursor into the 3D window. You will see that it is attached to your mouse cursor and left clicking will place this object in the world.

The Fifth Tab is Lighting, this will let you tweak the lighting for various areas of your map, there are many specialty tools here to let you adjust everything from the type of light to how those lights interact with the environment and objects around them.

The Sixth Tab is Audio, this is mainly used for ambient audio for the map, birds chirping etc, but you can tweak this however you like.

The last tab is the camera tool, this is mainly used for in game movies, you can play with it and maybe make some cool movies for your friends or to share on the web.

Note: None of the tools above are extremely user friendly, so refer to the first rule above and check online for some helpful hints on how to best use this tool.

When you are ready to try out your map, simply go to the File menu at the top and select the "Save As" option, name your file something recognizeable, and then save it into the "Multiplayer" directory where the other multiplayer maps in your game are stored (not the Edit_Map folder you created)

Start up the game and then choose Multiplayer/LAN and then select your new map from the list.

If you want to play a friend on this map, it is important that they have it too, so be sure to get it to them via email or over the net somehow.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Players trying to play a map that they do not have on their system will not work and may crash the game for you, so be sure to trade this map to anyone you plan on playing with.

We look forward to seeing some of your creations online, and we will keep you posted on updates to the game and editor as they develop.
