Turns out the joke is somewhat real (head here to sign up) -- although Devolver MaxPass+ is a “no-cost subscription service for top tier consumers that unlocks access to dozens, possibly hundreds of dozens of premium purchases available only to the most important users”. So yeah, basically a way to keep tabs of some of the for-reals games shown, like Shadow Warrior 3, the stylish Trek to Yomi, and the locally sourced Phantom Abyss.
But before we get to the individual game trailer and info -- here’s the latest DE3U installment in full.
The Full Devolver MaxPass+ Showcase
Devolver Digital Inc, unsanctioned publisher of weapons-grade video games, continued to revolutionise the video games industry with its latest online auto sensory extravaganza earlier today. The over-enthusiastic label revealed Devolver MaxPass+, a completely free subscription service that offers the entire Devolver Digital catalog - including all future titles - as exclusive, premium purchases.
Trek to Yomi
Trek to Yomi looks in a lot of ways like the black and white Kurosawa mode from the excellent Ghost of Tsushima but in side-scroller form. So yeah, classic Samurai film vibes from this one -- which is due for release sometime next year.
Wizard With a Gun
Even though the title gives away the premise, in that Wizard With a Gun features exactly that, it’s also “an online cooperative sandbox survival game set in a magical wilderness wrought with creatures and arcane mysteries”. Which means collecting, crafting, surviving, and carving out your own slice of wizardry in a dangerous world. It’s on track for a 2022 release on PC and consoles.
Inscryption
From the studio behind Pony Island and The Hex comes a blend of deckbuilding roguelike action, puzzle solving, and even survival horror. Some definite Hand of Fate vibes in this too -- which means we’re on board.
Devolver Tumble Time
Although the trailer doesn’t really give us a good idea of what this is, it’s essentially a mobile game. A parody? A for-reals serious attempt? Who knows. Probably not though, as the description reads, “Devolver Tumble Time is the future of physics-based puzzle gameplay, elegant monetization, and strategic brand integration launching for mobile devices in 2021. Choose characters from a packed roster of your favorite Devolver Digital games and rack up big points matching and clearing their impossibly adorable heads from the tumbler.”
Demon Throttle
From the team behind the very retro Gato Roboto comes the very retro Demon Throttle, which is apparently only getting a physical release. “The story of a beautiful vampiress and dusty gunslinger” features an 8-bit NES-like look, filtered through a VHS lofi vaporwave aesthetic.
Death’s Door
Reaping souls in a dark fantasy setting that blends The Legend of Zelda style adventuring with fluid combat, we recently had a chance to chat with the team at Acid Nerveall about it. And now it’s finally got a release date - July 20 on Xbox Series S and X, Xbox One, and PC.
Phantom Abyss
“Phantom Abyss is a massive asynchronous multiplayer game that casts players into procedurally-generated temples and tasks them with retrieving the sacred relics hidden within deadly chambers”. And it looks very cool. This one hits Steam Early Access on July 22.
Shadow Warrior 3
And finally we got our latest look at Shadow Warrior 3 in a gameplay trailer that highlights its fast-paced Doom Eternal-inspired arena combat in a bright and vibrant world based on eastern mythology. Weirdly we didn’t get a release date for this even though we got confirmation that it’s still on track for a 2021 release across PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
