Alongside our video interview for Mirror's Edge from the Tokyo Game Show, we also took some time out to take the supplied demo for a run-through to see just how this free-running-inspired first-person action game plays.
the good news is the first-person view gives an incredible sensation of being on the rooftops performing the death-defying leaps we've seen in the game's trailers and videos, whether or not this can carry the game's linear stylings all the way through though, will remain to be seen. Hit this link for the full hands-on preview, and this link for the AusGamer's Mirror's Edge game page. Saturday, 11 October 2008

We know we recently posted a feature called "One Last Look: Fable 2", but it turns out we lied. Well, actually it was a combination of thinking we'd seen everything then walking into our Fable 2 hands-on session at TGS and being greeted by series creator, Peter Molyneux.
When he asked us what we knew of the game I ran him through a laundry list of all the viewings we had done and that, really, all we wanted to do was finally play the bloody thing. He obliged and asked that we sit down and just start playing while he spoke to us about the game-world, its unbelievably deep manifest of secrets, while he also ran us through the magic, combat and ranged combat system in excellent detail. This is one of the best sessions we've ever been given access to, and although we're asking a lot (it's a whopping 30 minutes long), you'd be doing yourself a favour to check this video interview/hands-on out if you're even remotely interested in Fable 2. Hit the screenshot or this link to go directly to the video. Post by Steve Farrelly @ 02:21pm 11/10/08 | 0 Comments
Put your reading glasses away and turn up your hearing aids because we have yet another video interview for you direct from the Tokyo Game Show event floor, this time with EA's latest Need For Speed update, Undercover.
Chatting away to EA Vancouver NFS:U Product Manager, Darin Perfonic, we look at the series' all-new "Heroic Driver Engine", talk about the design goals of the game, escaping police, damaging licensed cars and, of course, the all-important multiplayer modes. You can stream the video here, or download it from the supplied link (it's only around three and a half minutes long). Post by Steve Farrelly @ 01:46am 11/10/08 | 0 Comments
Day two of this year's Tokyo Game Show saw yours truly and Dan slogging it out against the tenacious Japanese along with the rest of known world for all the exclusive stuff we could nab. Well, actually that's not true. The reality is everyone here is unbelievably accommodating and we're managing to score some great gameplay and interview sessions.
If you haven't checked out our first video interview up with Mirror's Edge Senior Producer, Owen O'Brian, make sure you do because it's a great insight into the game as well as revealing the potential future of what will likely become a long-standing EA IP. We also took a look at Sony's inFamous in detail in this preview. Day one aside, we began day two with an awesome encounter with Aaron Greenberg, Xbox 360 Production guru and the event's New Xbox Experience protagonist. He ran us through the inner workings of the new Xbox 360 set up which we'll show in greater detail (and in video form) in the not-too-distant future. We also shacked up alongside one of the Aussie's working out of Ubisoft Shanghai on Endwar to see whether you're going to be wanting to verbally control your RTS's this holiday season. Initially we weren't sure about this game, but after this session, I'm happy to say it's actually looking pretty solid and maybe doesn't play quite the way you think. Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts also found its way into our scope and despite being a super-old kiddie platforming title, there's something utterly charming about its return to gaming. Again, we'll have a video up of this session soon. Another cool feature we indulged in was to check out the World Premiere of the fully CG Resi flick, Resident Evil: Degeneration, which while not anywhere near the standard of Pixar or the like, will sate fans of the series needing any form of closure or association with its many and various chapters and parts. We got to check out the show floor in detail once again, booth babes in tow. And for your viewing pleasure have uploaded a handful of images to check out. Tomorrow (Saturday, October 11) we brave the general public just for you, and we'll be sure to catch as many whacky Japanese cosplay victims as possible for you to look at as well as capture what can only be described as an ingrained culture of videogames and life here in Japan. Stay tuned for more. Friday, 10 October 2008

On day one of the Tokyo Game Show press days, Microsoft not only showed off more of their New Xbox Experience, they also decided to reveal an update to the Halo franchise in the form of an expansion (of sorts) for Halo 3 called Halo 3: Recon with a pretty intense trailer (this is also stemming from online hints and propaganda from Bungie from the past few months).
Despite the fact TGS seems an unlikely place for such an unveiling (the Japanese could care less about FPS), the video shown and info made available does suggest this - albeit an expansion - could be just what the doctor ordered for Halo fans and Microsoft in general (since CoD4 pretty much left Halo 3 multiplayer at the post). One of the most interesting things about this new Halo entrant sees you not playing through as Master Chief, but as a young Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (ODST). With this new main character you'll play through events that lead up to the Chief's eventual return that sparked the intro to Halo 3 (making this a prequel to that game, of sorts) giving the story some flesh, but also shifting up the perspective a bit. Beyond playing through as someone other that Master Chief, not much more is known other than the game will also pack a bunch of all-new multiplayer features. We'll be keeping our ears to the ground for anything new though, so stay tuned. Post by Steve Farrelly @ 08:35pm 10/10/08 | 1 Comments
Among the myriad of games being thrust in our faces at TGS, we decided to take some time out to have a look at Sony's forthcoming open-world superhero romp, inFamous, from Sly Cooper series developer, Sucker Punch Games.
It's always tough entering the sandbox genre, especially when combined with the comic-book inspired superhero genre, but Sucker Punch are confident they can not only deliver a game that makes you feel like a savior, but also one that lets you choose the path of moral decisiveness: will you be good, or bad? You can view our thoughts on the game right here, and be sure to check out our AusGamers inFamous game page for screens and media. Post by Steve Farrelly @ 10:29am 10/10/08 | 1 Comments
The first of many more, this video interview saw us chatting away with Mirror's Edge Senior Producer, Owen O'Brian (yep, he's as Irish as they come), from EA's booth on the TGS show floor.
Aside from running us through a few control pointers, O'Brian braves our probing questions regarding freedom of movement, trial and error gameplay, multiplayer, map-editing, Mirror's Edge 2 and animated movies. Hit this link for the full video review, and be sure to stay tuned to our TGS Home Page for more as we move into the second press day. Thursday, 9 October 2008

![]() For the most part, a lot of what's on show here is either too Japanese for the Western world or we've just seen it a bunch of times already, but with so much dropping towards the end of 2008, we're not skimping on the details and have actually had a pretty good chance to grill some people about their respective products to sift our way through all the PR fluff and hubbub for the real dirt. We have a bunch of AusGamers exclusive videos coming your way with interviews from guys working on such games as Mirror's Edge, Need For Speed: Underground, Halo Wars, Fable II (with Mr. Molyneux himself, and it's a great vid for anyone looking forward to the game), Tom Clancy's HAWX and Prince of Persia (with an Aussie who is working on the game, no less). We also had a chance to check out other games which we'll be writing about in the coming days, equally. So stay tuned as we'll be uploading these videos as fast as Dan can encode them, while I, in the meantime, will be getting all editorial on you with previews and hands-on reports (the first of which is InFamous for the PS3) for your reading pleasure. Oh, and we'll be posting photos of random Japanese booth babes in awesome cosplay get ups, because ultimately, that's what TGS is all about. Post by trog @ 05:04pm 09/10/08 | 14 Comments
