Battlefield 1942 Multiplayer Demo

The demo for Battlefield 1942 has been released a bit early - grab it now locally from AusGamers! There is a server running up on GameArena at the moment, but it appears right off the bat that there are issues with the dedicated server which might cause problems, so we'll have to do some more testing before we put one up here on AusGamers. Grab it and jump online and give it a go now, and let us know what you think!

Update: The download is now available again.

I installed some old Detonator drivers (23.11) and now it works (was using 30.82). Weird.

I'm still grabbing it..about 10 mins to go. Have EA fucked another one? if so tell me as I wont waste my time even trying it.

EA are really getting on my goat these days, locking you into Gayspy , no support or feedback ect..

It runs fine and connects fine. You don't have to install gamespy, just use the ingame browser. The GA server just went down but i'm sure it'll be up again soon.

Ravage if your running anything but a GF4 with those drivers you might have probs. I know they are supposed to be 'unified' drivers but the 30.82 are optomised for gf4 apparently. If your running a gf3 ect then thats probably why the 23.11's work.

Game works fine for me. Havent had any probs except for it running shit on my machine. But, me using the old 28.32 dets on my GF2mx if people want to know.

WELL RUNNINg REALLY WELL ON MY RIG..A BIT HARD TO FLY THE PLANES AS i HAVE NEVER EVEN GIVEN THE sp DEMO A GO..LOOKS PRETTY GOOD IF YOU ASK ME.

tHEN i GOT AN INFINITE LOOP ERROR WHICH i HAVENT HAD FOR AGES..FIRED IT UP AGAIN AND IT RUNS FINE STILL..

WHY IS IT THAT THE ga SERVER CONSTANTLY REPORTS 'CONNECTION PROBLEM DETECTED' YET i PLAY ON ANOTHER SERVER WITH A MUCH IGHER PING FINE FOR AGES??

nup getting infinite loops a lot now..not playing a game that doesnt have working .dll files for the nv4 disp driver..fuk it it gets deleted...like so many others before it.

Back to SOF2 online.

Quite frankly I'm fucking disappointed at this game.

The controls for the planes are really really fucking shit. It takes forever to get anywhere(even tribes2 is less hassle)

Weapons aim and fire like crap apart from the bigger weapons which aren't to bad.

I'll keep giving it ago because I like the overall idea of the game.

Have to see what it's like on lan before i make any conclusive opinion. The guns were firing shit for me too, but i've been playing on some awfully laggy servers - so, a 32 vs 32 game at QGL will be nice to see :)

i grabbed it from the NZ link..

it gives a conflict in the settings when you select, say.. up arrow for forward instead of W for more than one area, ie in infantry and then another one.. but it happily lets you have the default settings conflicting with each other, just not your own..

eg i prefer the arrow keys for forward, back, strafe left-right etc instead of WASD and in teh single player demo it let me select those keys for each of the settings, infantry, vehicles etc.. the MP demo refuses to let me do this for some reason, i can select the arrow keys for infantry but not for vehicles :-( also i want to try and see if i can use my sidewinder stick and throttle for the planes in it.. if not that will piss me off.. flight sims should be played with a stick..
