Monolith's take on Tolkien's epic world is nothing short of ambitious. The game's nemesis system and the character and personalisation of its myriad denizen -- friend and foe -- is one of the craziest we've ever come across, and if the final product can pull off the studio's vision, we could be seeing a paradigm shift in videogaming AI.

But AI is nothing without a story, and with Middle-earth as your backdrop, you can bet you better bring the goods in the narrative department. Today's story trailer for the game, as debuted at Gamescom, definitely offers up all the beats we've come to expect from the expanded media side of Tolkien's lore and definitely has us clamoring for more.
