Capcom has today announced that the original horror-tastic Resident Evil will be gaining a remastered release on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Set to launch as a purely digital title in early 2015, the upcoming remastered release will feature updated 1080p visuals for both PC and new gen consoles, plus 5.1 surround support for audio nerds. The game will also offer a choice of playing the game in 4:3 ratio or 16:9 widescreen, with additional choice of controls also available including the classic Resident Evil control scheme.

Originally released all the way back in 1996 for Sony's PlayStation, Resident Evil was then ported to other platforms. other publications have noted that this version is based on the game's 2002 GameCube release, rather than the original PlayStation version.
