Feminist Frequency has released a new video in its Tropes vs Women series, exploring the various sexist tropes in videogames. The latest issue features Anita Sarkeesian discussing the Background decoration trope, wherein sexualised woman are used as set pieces to "infuse edgy, gritty or racy flavoring into game worlds."
These sexually objectified female bodies are designed to function as environmental texture while titillating presumed straight male characters," the video's description reads. "Sometimes they're created to be glorified furniture, but they are frequently programmed as minimally interactive sex objects to be used and abused.
Previous videos have explored the in distress, and Ms.Male characters.

As a man I can say with firm authority that these tropes are a total non-issue and that these stupid b****** with their hoop earrings should just get over it.

I see this all the time in movies and tv shows as well.

It's an entrainment culture issue with historic story tropes (not PC specific ones), targeting PC games seems unjust. Lead the change in mainstream media and the niche medias will follow I say. Looking at you Hollywood.

Yeah, because in that level in Hitman: Blood Money it's impossible to take one of the FBI guys, the garbage men, the chef, the clown or the target as a human shield.

Arpey, you're talking like she's actually reasonable and not pushing an agenda...

31 minutes and 44 seconds and no mention of rape culture? That's impressive.

pretty much everything that she complains about is simply a gaming microcosm of what happens in real life. which makes the videos seem a bit trite... like complaining about a drawing of a crime, when there is real crime going on.

I'm pissed off that in Tomb Raider, men are used as props while the woman saves the world. Over, and over, and over.

When is a male Tomb Raider going to come out with a PhysX enabled nutsac? This is madness!

I'd pay good money for a male tomb raider with realistic swinging cod.
