Although Keen Games' upcoming Diablo-like cooperative hack-and-slash was originally slated for an August 26th release, publisher Deep Silver has announced today that Sacred 3 will instead be releasing ahead of schedule on August 5th.

For those lucky enough to be situated in North America, retailer GameStop will be offering a new playable character named Malakhim, who battles enemies with "mysterious blood magic." GameStop pre-orders include the Underworld Story mission pack, as well as Malakhim and the Z4ngr13f Weapon Spirit. New to the franchise in Sacred 3, Weapon Spirits are upgradable items that allow players to augment their weapons. Some Spirits take the form of characters from previous Spirit games.

Sadly publisher Deep Silver hasn't revealed if Australian gamers will be getting the same pre-order treatment, though hopefully we'll hear word of it sooner rather than later. Sacred series characters Ancarian, Khukuri, the Safiri and Seraphim will return in Sacred 3, which offers two-player local co-op and four-player online co-op.

Sacred 3 will be available on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at its new release date of August 5th.

Awesome, I hadn't even realized this was happening.

I lost so many hours to Sacred 2, so this should be a bloody rippah :D
