Killzone: Shadow Fall developer Guerrilla Games will add online co-op to the first-person shooter next month with a new expansion called Intercept, the studio announced today.
Intercept will be available free to owners of Shadow Fall's season pass, however Guerrilla are also looking at releasing a standalone version later this year. The expansion will include four new maps based on previous campaign locations. The expansion supports up to four players, with the team playing as members of an elite group known as Intelligence Squad Alpha within the ISA's Vektan Security Agency.
Intelligence Squad Alpha's mission is to intercept Helghast intelligence missives and send them back to VSA headquarters; the co-op mode is a wave-based arena combat experience in which players are attempting to hold off Helghast forces for as long as it takes to establish a hacking uplink and send the data back to home base. The expansion will include four classes: Assault, Marksman, Medic and Tactician. All four players must work together to increase their Team Score, which measures how close they are to setting up the uplink. Defending said uplinks from the Helghast will also raise the score, as does personal performance, though dying or losing uplinks will drop the team's score.
