Zombie survival game DayZ Standalone has sold over 2 million copies since going live on Steam's Early Access program, creator Dean "Rocket" Hall revealed on Twitter.

“Just over 2 years ago the DayZ mod released. Today, the Standalone game just broke 2 million units in under 6 months,” the tweet read. This is a staggering feat for a game still in early access, and one that only just recently announced it had surpassed 800,000 sales in January, a month after its launch.

DayZ Standalone's sales have been rather rapid, beginning with 88,000 sold in just the first 12 hours, which was later topped by 172,000 in 24 hours. It also dominated the Steam charts at Christmas with its first week of sales numbering over 400,000. One can easily say that DayZ Standalone is indeed a popular title, no matter the early access label.

Hall has previously revealed the roadmap that players can expect DayZ Standalone to travel, including barricades, ragdoll physics, vehicles, hunting and a whole lot more. Check out the full post over here for that discussion, and let us know in the comments on your thoughts about DayZ's early access so far and if you are still playing it.

Yep, pretty much still playing daily. Having many hunting adventures :)
The game takes on a new feel once you have crap you don't want to lose. If you are a fresh spawn you can happily just run around like a mad thing without a care.

As to the state of the game play. There are no real show stopper issues now. You might get a bit of a glitch now and then but it is very playable.

Thus proving that people are stupid...

Why pay for something that has almost no content when the mods are still 100's of times better (epoch anyone?)

That's a bit harsh to call people stupid because they're willing to pay for something they enjoy.

Paying a somewhat reasonable price for it isn't so bad considering the issues the basic engine has that every mod i've tried still suffers from.

DayzSA seems mostly focused on ironing out the major gameplay issues, mechanics and cheating/hacking before releasing more content into the game world. Still need to see how it'll be when it finally releases though.

But there is absolute full disclosure on the part of the devs. On the Steam store page there is a massive warning about how the game is in alpha stage and will be buggy. The same warning comes up every time you start up the game. I don't see how you could possibly call it a con.

edit: it says this

What the developers say:
“DayZ Early Access is your chance to experience DayZ as it evolves throughout its development process. Be aware that our Early Access offer is a representation of our core pillars, and the framework we have created around them. It is a work in progress and therefore contains a variety of bugs. We strongly advise you not to buy and play the game at this stage unless you clearly understand what Early Access means and are interested in participating in the ongoing development cycle.”

Ok i'll agree with you there Fpot.
No, Its not a con. it was a dream I bought into. In good faith I hoped that this was better than the original mod, its not. End of story, Im not cut I dropped $30 on this. I'm way more annoyed that Dean sold out.

Melodramatic much? You know its not a finished game yet right? It is far from it so how can you judge it? Pfft

Anyone who didn't know what they where getting into and feels ripped off is some kind of special ignorant.
