Orcs Must Die: Unchained has been officially announced, making it the third entry in Robot Entertainment’s tower defence series, coming to PC in free-to-play form.

Described as a Fortress Siege action game, Orcs Must Die! Unchained sees players once again defending their castle strongholds with rather goofy and over-the-top medieval machinery. The difference this time around is that now teams of players will join forces (either solo with bots or with online players) for 5v5 team competition to see who can hold off the monstrous opposition better. On top of that, players can now also summon their own armies of minions to help hold off the orc menace.

Currently in early development, those itching to get their hands on the game's alpha right now can purchase the top-of-the-line Founder's Pack for $149.99, which will include immediate access, five heroes, $200 in Gold, five exclusive skins, an extra alpha code, three extra beta codes, five copies of the original Ors Must Die! and Orcs Must Die! 2, as well as developer forum access. If that's a bit too expensive for you than don't worry, as Robot Entertainment is also offering two rather cheaper alternatives for priority alpha and priority beta access.

Good god Orcs Must Die 2 was fun, not sure about this talk of in-game currency for a paid game though...

edit: Doh, it's going to be free to play.

AWW YEAAAAAAAAAH. Can't wait. This is probably one of the ONLY games I would support an in-game currency. I would buy the Founder pack if it wasn't $200. Cos I'm poor.

Damn that's expensive for Orcs Must Die.

Maybe later.
