It's been quite a while since we heard anything new about Epic Games' ambitious open world sandbox project Fortnite, but there's a bunch of new bits today by way of a cover feature in Game Informer's May issue.

GI has released a teaser video for its upcoming coverage which actually features some brief snippets of the first gameplay footage and brief commentary from Epic Games developers, and the studio is inviting gamers to register for an upcoming alpha test phase official website:
Fortnite features the cooperative third-person shooter core Epic Games is known for, but rather than throwing you into scripted events and corridors, the game challenges you to explore the environment for resources and build fortresses while fending off waves of attackers at the same time. With an RPG-like progression system, Diablo-like looting, multiple campaigns of varying lengths, procedurally generated worlds, and the promise of player vs. player battles, Epic is offering plenty of replayability that it hopes will provide the game with a long lifecycle.
Fortnite was originally announced as a PC-focused free-to-play title built on Epic's new Unreal Engine 4, and that still seems to be the case. There's no new word on a release date, however.
