Australia's very own local Call of Duty team Trident T1 Dotters has found its way into winning fifth place and taking home a prize of $75,000 during the 2014 Call of Duty Championship this past weekend in Los Angeles.

The win has dubbed the team "Koala Duty" by the global eSports community, with Trident T1 Dotters having come out of nowhere to beat Faze - the top ranked team in their bracket of group play - before heading to the Championships. Further cementing Australia’s place in eSports, Trident were the only international team represented in the top six teams, with all other finalists from North America.

The local team surprised all at the championships by winning six matches total and losing only two matches to top ranked Teams EnvyUs and Optic Gaming who placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. The prize pool winning of $75,000 has marked the largest prize for any ANZ eSports team, and hopefully this means further eSports support for our local gaming scene.

You can check out more on the 2014 Call of Duty Championships including a recap of the weekend over on the official website.

Was wondering why we went decent and why all top teams were north american. Consoles makes sense now. Still a good effort though. So do they have call of duty championships on pc as well or only console?

Being successful in console gaming is like being successful in pop music. It's just not real, but pays well.

hey, that is a good result for us I think

beating out some of those asian countries, and other countries where getting the sponsors dollars are easier is a bloody fine effort

Yea there is a lot of money in COD tournaments now. An Aussie got into the final stages of the 200k Halo 4 ffa tournament awhile back as well apparently.

In all honesty, some of you peeps really sicken me.

So here we have a bunch of Aussies who did well in a thing but because it's a thing you don't care about or understand, you ridicule them? They didn't just rock up and win because, you know, according to you that's how console works -- they worked hard. Instead of being d****, maybe just be supportive?

I thought Australia was about "giving a fair go"

I get utterly spanked by even ordinary players playing console fps games so I can only imagine how hilariously badly I'd be hammered by world class players.

Then I think about how if I played with them using a controller and me using a kb+mouse how the result would basically be reversed and everything is okay again.

two negative, and one or three a little anti console, but positive doesn't seem to bad out of 9 comments (making 7 positive)

good on them. when are the "consoles suck" brigade going to get over it? they're a huge part of gaming, why can't you just enjoy all formats?

Then I think about how if I played with them using a controller and me using a kb+mouse how the result would basically be reversed and everything is okay again.

why do you think this? genuinely curious. cause if they are totally into using a controller and have been practising for years what make the kb+mouse better?

surely it just comes back to reflexes and skill on either input device so they could be equally as good, or better, or worse than you no matter what input you use.

it's a video game tournament. i understand you're an important person in a gaming community and you're sick of your wife having to lie about what you do for work because society still views making your life revolve around video games as infantile, but you have to understand that these australians are getting accolades for calling other teenagers f*****s and n******. that is not worthy of respect.

It's competitive E-sports what do you expect. Things get heated. I'm not sure about COD tournaments but Halo tournaments were usually quite tasteful.

Because afaik, there are things that you can do with the kb+mouse in regards to aiming that are simply impossible on a standard controller. Things like flicking 190 degrees really quickly and nailing a headshot for example. Perhaps there might be some settings I'm not aware of, but because a thumbstick has such a small throw for such a large degree of movement on the screen it's just simply impossible to quickly flick. Whenever I move the thumbstick hard left or right there is a painfully long wait compared to how long it takes to flick with my mouse. Also is it even possible to circle strafe with a controller? I am trying to think and I can't see how it is. Could be wrong though.

In case it's not obvious, I am not deriding the skill level of these guys they must be awesome to win such high stake tournaments. Do you they really use racial and homophobic slurs like that during the tournaments though? I don't see how the sponsors would ever allow it.

Everything happens quicker on mouse+kb with world class players. You can only turn so fast (and be so accurate) on a controller. A mouse can do both jobs far better if in capable hands. Even if you handicapped one mouse+kb user by maxing their turn speed to match a console, they'd get smashed by someone with equal skill on mouse+kb without such a limitation.

Yes you can be awesome on a console, but only against other console users. Microsoft tried a cross platform years ago and it was all canned because of the disparities.

In the main tournaments if they trash talk too much they can and have been dropped by their sponsors I know that much.
fpot
Posted 11:52pm 03/4/14
How about they get dropped if they call someone a n***** or a f***** even once, like in every other legitimate form of competition ever. Seriously, what do you think would happen if Michael Clarke said he was going to break a f***** or n*****'s arm over the stump microphone?

I wish game journos didn't shamelessly whore themselves to game makers and pubs, deliberately leaving out any mention of things like titanfall's horrible, horrible matchmaking service as well as its lock at 60 fps (with vsynch OFF).

Going a little further back, good ol' MW2, which followed the late and great CoD4, with dedicated servers c-sectioned out of it. But hey, it's all good because it's a "seamless transition between hosts if the hosting peer should drop out", followed by "insanely frenetic gameplay and stunning visuals"(quote~S.Farrelly) because we wouldn't want potential players focusing too much on the game's negatives! Where's the money in that?!?

Deliberate sabotage of the PC as a platform which game journos SHOULD at least be following up on.
