Alongside today's Battlefield 4 patch for PC that has brought a number of much needed balances and tweaks to the modern FPS, DICE has also introduced the much delayed Mantle API.

"The biggest performance gains can be seen when the game is bottlenecked by the CPU which can be quite common even on high-end machines and this was main goal to improve on with Mantle," Frostbite technical director Johan Andersson wrote on a recent Battlelog post. "We've also been able to streamline and optimize some of the GPU workload. The end result is that game performance is improved in virtually all scenarios in Battlefield 4 on both Windows 7 and Windows 8 when running with Mantle!"

Mantle is an API designed to improve a game's visuals and how efficiently it's rendered. Full instructions on how to enable Mantle, along with further information about expected performance improvements, are outlined on the blog post.

Alongside the introduction of Mantle, DICE has also brought through the latest PC patch for Battlefield 4, bringing the aforementioned API but also some balance changes to the DMR and a handful of fixes. You can find the full patch notes over at the Battlelog post.

Looking forward to seeing how my i5 3570k and 7990 handle it. Potentially 30-50% performance increase? Wham bam :)

Got on after the update last night, everything was going ok until all the servers crashed and burned. EA certainly knows how to travel the hard road.

Last couple of nights even the usual full Oceania servers have been a bit quiet. Hopefully "appreciation" month will bring a few back.

Yeah I was on last night then after a bit every server went down.

I wonder what they did to the DMR's. I laugh at the noobs in hardcore with the autosniper when I hear that ricochet going off all around. Spray that shit, spray it good.

Well they've apparently made 3 shot possible from range and increased accuracy when firing quickly.

So if anything, it'll be less spraying of bullets now, more spraying of your own blood. Thankfully, DMR's were in a really terrible place.
