Originally planned to release as an Early Access title on Steam, indie developer Double Fine has instead opted for a season pass release through the service. The developer has also released a new video showing off the female protagonist, Vella.

Speaking in a backers-only update on their Kickstarter page, Double Fine has stated that the season pass will contain both part one and part two of the title (via Joystiq).

“You may recall that at one point Broken Age was planned for release under the Steam Early Access program,” wrote the developer. “This is no longer the case. For various logistical reasons, and because we believe Act 1 is a polished and satisfying piece of content in its own right, Broken Age will be a standard Steam release that includes a ‘Season Pass’ granting access to Act 2 once it is complete."

Double Fine has also ensured that those who have purchased Act 1, either backers or purchasers of the originally Early Access model, will gain access to Act 2 for free through an update when it's ready.

Act 1 has been made available to backers as of today, but those outside of the Kickstarter will gain access come January 29th. Currently the game is available for pre-order on Steam for 10% off at $22.49. Act 2 is expected to ship later this year as a free update to all owners of the game. In the future, the game will also ship for Ouya, iOS, and Android.
