Brian McQuaid, a longtime designer of massively multiplayer online role-playing games such as EverQuest and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, has launched a Kickstarter campaign
today for his latest MMO title, Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen.
Described as a "group-focused MMORPG based on challenging gameplay and open-world high fantasy," the team at Visionary Realms already begun working on Pantheon, with the Kickstarter page featuring a number of pre-alpha screenshots alongside footage featured in the pitch video. The team are looking to raise $800,000 initially, with a number of stretch goals ranging from $1 million through to $6.7 million that will add new classes and features.
Pantheon is being visually geared towards like-minded players, eager to take upon a challenging combat system and "intensely social game for the determined thrill-seeker." Pantheon’s combat places a focus on preparation and awareness of the enemy with the player able to actively dodge, block, or deflect attacks, and preparing one's arsenal for particular enemies will be key.
"We could have taken the team, the prototype, the design docs, and the concept art to a publisher or an investor, but we decided it made more sense to first bring it directly to you," said McQuaid, chief content officer at Visionary Realms. "Hopefully you’ll like what you see and find the game’s design and focus both compelling and refreshing."
