Indie developer Uber Entertainment has announced --by way of a rather offbeat press release-- a partnership with European publisher Nordic Games to bring their crowdfunded strategy game Planetary Annihilation to retail markets.
Nordic Games and Uber Entertainment were going to announce one of those taxi startups, but sending suited Scandinavians around the world to deliver new games turned out to be WAY too expensive. Who knew! Instead, the two gaming giants are announcing an exciting partnership to bring the retail version of Planetary Annihilation to market, as well as a non-exclusive partnership to handle the online release.

"It's a busy time for Nordic Games, especially as we've just finished buying all these black cars," said Klemens Kreuzer, Managing Director at Nordic Games, wearing a grey three-piece. "We're all dressing much better and we're bringing a legendary RTS franchise to players around the world with some very special retail SKUs for the hardcore fan."

"Nordic Games is helping us deliver the next-generation of real-time strategy gaming to our Kickstarter backers and global fan base," said Jon Mavor, CTO at Uber Entertainment, not wearing a suit at all. "We can't wait to show the press and fans what we've put together, it's a very exciting time to be a part of Uber Entertainment. I should clarify we're not THAT Uber. Nice suits, though."
Billed as somewhat of a spiritual successor to Total Annihilation guys from a team littered with former TA devs, Planetary Annihilation is currently kicking it beta form on Steam Early Access and the Humble Store, but an official release date for the completed game remains as "when it's done".

Come to think of it, I think I entered my details post kickstarter to get the beta key, and never did. Tbh, I've lost all interest in most of the games I kickstarted, heh.

Anyone else played this? is it like original TA?

I have.
It's still buggy, but the core concept is there, and presents some unique gameplay mechanics.

It seems to have some of TA's 'hangups' for mid-late game, but the engine is coming along well, they're communicating updates well also.

It's a beta, so there's not much in the way of depth for units, but Uber have stated from the start that they're working on the engine and mechanics first, then some 'diversity' in unit types later on.

In being blunt. If you've not bought it yet, I don't know that I'd recommend it; it has potential, but I don't think it's there just yet.
(Then again, I don't know that it'll get much cheaper, I think the RRP for it when it launches in Jan/Feb will be around the $50)
