Bungie's hugely ambitious open-world shooter Destiny has been given a release date, along with a rough timeline on when we'll be playing in the beta.

According to the quite large date on the official website, those eager to start exploring Bungie's mysterious world will find Destiny launching on September 9th, 2014. Expect many aliens to be blown up and hopefully no launch issues given the game is an online multiplayer title ala those we've seen in others like Diablo 3 and SimCity.

Additionally, the studio has also confirmed when players can expect the beta to take place: during America's Summer (our Winter) of 2014. Those wanting to get the chance to participate can gain guaranteed access by pre-ordering, or being lucky enough to nab a code from somewhere.

Destiny is due on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.
