Travis Fimmel is absolutely brilliant in Vikings. Great show

The movie? Glad they haven't gone for big name actors but I don't hold much hope for it. The story is there but doubt it'll work on the big screen.

@glynd What makes you think it won't work?
Warcraft has a rich lore, there's literally dozens of current awesome storylines for them to use. Yes, they're writing a new story AFAIK, but just being based in the universe with this huge backstory behind it we will surely get an awesome story.
I'm just worried about what the story will actually be.

And I want to fucking see Thrall.

They already announced at Blizzcon what the story will be, its the opening of the dark portal and the first meeting between the alliance and the orcs. They mentioned Lothar being in it, as well as Durotan (thralls father). So even though they're fleshing out the story and writing a bunch of new stuff its still pretty firmly planted in the WoW timeline, its not like they're just going off and making entirely new shit up. Probably a bit early to see Thrall though, but hey, thats what sequels are for! :p

Still not sure they can pull it off in live action, though I guess Lotr did, and the concept stuff they showed at blizzcon for Stormwind and Dalaran looked pretty amazing.

He looks like an orc to me.

How surreal would that be for a fan? Playing a character in the game then a character in the movie.

Like I said, no question that the material is there. But this is going to be incredibly hard to pull off and extremely easy to stuff up. It's already been visualised on top of that. I'm hoping for the best but not expecting much at all. At least it seems like they've started on the right foot with cast and crew

are these just voice actors for an animated movie or more conventional actors?

Nah, its not going to be animated, its going to be live action, like LoTR was done, so they'll be acting for reals.

i wonder if the orcs will be CGI or people with prosthetics.

If it has the quality/style of LoTR it could be good, shame they couldn't get Peter Jackson to help out.. maybe exec produce?

The original storyline from W1 is prety cool, a good basis for a film.

Is there anywhere I can read up on all the main lore/storylines? Or is it Wikipedia time?

http://www.wowpedia.org is probably better than wikipedia, cos its a WoW specific wiki

Just search for something and then follow links to find out more about different events and characters, thats what I normally do. For events that happen around the time the movie is set though, hes a good place to start, The First War or The Dark Portal.
