For those still continuing their adventures in Azeroth, Blizzard has unveiled a new battle.net blog post that will help shed some light on the Proving Grounds area coming in patch 5.4. According to the new post, the area will offer a repeatable scenario for level 90 players and it all begins with speaking to an NPC.
There comes a time in any healer, tank, or damage dealer’s life when they decide to take their collaborative skills and abilities to the next level. When that time comes, the Proving Grounds will be waiting. Set within the Temple of the White Tiger, this new feature will provide a repeatable solo Scenario where level 90 players can test their mettle or try out different roles in a safe, controlled environment.
The basic premise for this new area is to ensure that players are knowledgeable in each of the roles on offer in the MMO, from tank to healer to damage inflictor. The Proving Grounds will be available in four different modes: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Endless.

Each of the modes will test your ability to respond to the assigned role, hopefully re-assuring yourself that tanking isn't the hardest thing to do. Once you've progressed through each of the modes you'll be offered an Endless mode, which as the name suggests is somewhat endless.
In Endless, you’ll push yourself to the limits and see just how long you can survive as each wave of foes becomes more and more difficult to withstand. The longer you survive Endless, the higher your score, and the system will track your progress so you can see just how well you’ve done.
