League of Legends developer Riot Games has revealed a new Sydney-based office has today opened their doors, with plans on supporting the Oceanic based region in many various ways.
Riot Games Sydney is official. Known for its beaches, opera house, sports scene and friendly-looking marsupials, we’re excited to introduce a little bit of riotousness to Australia’s biggest city.

With teams in marketing, esports and community, Sydney Rioters will craft unique experiences on the web and on the ground to support the growing League of Legends community in the Oceania region.
Hopefully now that Australia has their own headquarters for the MOBA title we can soon see some more Aussie action in the eSports scene, plus a chance to gain local servers to help push down our miserable pings, much like Valve's DOTA 2 recently introduced.

Why? Doesn't it make more sense to have the infrastructure setup to support the game here, before having local servers?

I think this is good. Means they take the oceanic players seriously. Next step local servers

No, not when people would happily run their servers for them for free, probably

Does anyone from here play any of these type of games? I have tried playing some of them but get chewed out for not being a 10 year DOTA esport veteran. I would have another go if anyone else here played and I could tag along.

Bladerunner, watch some youtube video's imo.

GenWilder (I think) has some good (but older, still handy) videos of pro's playing ranked which helped me get better.

There are probably other channels for DOTA2 (TotalBiscuit has a newb series that would help you) and HoN as well.

I watched a video a day for probably a month and my game was improved quite a lot when I came back from all the little things I noticed.

Biggest tip I can give you though, it's always better to not die. If you think something looks risky, don't do it until you're comfy with the game.

Also, never auto-attack creeps, you need to time your shot instead of just flailing like mad (unless you're like super fed and you can 2 shot everything super quickly.)

If they bring out an Aussie LoL server, I might just brush off the dust and pick it up again methinks.

BladeRunner, try out each of the individual Reddits for DOTA 2, HoN and LoL. While they can be filled with elitists most of the time they are quite welcoming to new players. I'd also suggest lolking.net for guides and tip in LoL, and I believe DOTA 2 has its own mobafire section as well for such things.

I'm a regular player on LoL, not so much DOTA 2 though I have been meaning to get back into it. Overall I prefer LoL to any of the MOBAs purely for its simplistic nature. While yes this may deem me as a "casual" in the eyes of the hardcore guys, I just like the gameplay mechanics that Riot does over Valve or S2 Games. To me it feels like I get more action out of a LoL match then the others, but this may just be my tastes.

Hopefully this announcement does mean an eventual release of Australian servers as it could only boost our community more. Being able to actually play some of the more skillshot characters like Ezreal or Orianna would be nice.

Thanks for the tips, guys. Can I tag along with any of you? If not I will just play against bots for something to do.

More than welcome to Blade, add Frodzone on Steam or froodleme in LoL.
