In a very out-of-the-ordinary announcement, Blizzard took to the stage this morning at Sony's PlayStation Meeting 2013 to reveal that the action RPG Diablo 3 will be making its way to both the PlayStation 3 and upcoming next-gen PlayStation 4 console.
Chris Metzen took to the stage to reveal the announcement, stating that the game will work on both consoles and will feature a full-screen four player co-op mode. Metzen also revealed that "all of the latest upgrades, such as the Paragon leveling system, customizable Monster Power, Brawling, and epic Legendary items" will be available in the console versions.
The PS3/PS4 version of Diablo III will be based on the critically acclaimed core experience of the PC version, including all of the latest upgrades, such as the Paragon leveling system, customizable Monster Power, Brawling, and epic Legendary items.
In addition, Blizzard is designing an all-new user interface, including an intuitive control scheme and a new dynamic camera perspective, that will make questing and combat in the world of Sanctuary feel like second nature on PlayStation platforms. Players will be able to battle their way through the story in single-player mode and also experience the hack-and-slash joy of destroying demons and collecting loot together with their friends via seamless four-player online and local co-op modes.
“Diablo III looks and plays great on the PlayStation,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We put a lot of care and thought into the PlayStation version to make sure it would deliver an authentic Diablo gaming experience, and we’re really pleased with the results. We can’t wait for players to try it out at PAX East.”
Blizzard also announced today that the PS3 version of Diablo III will be shown live at PAX East, taking place at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center from March 22–24 so stay tuned for more later next month including possible screenshots and demos.

I have a feeling they designed the game to be console friendly from the start and thats part of the reason it ended up falling short.

I mean, they had something in early beta that was far more like a PC game. Then they started getting asked if they were releasing it on console and there was the whole "we're not saying... We're just sayin'..." PR talk about it.
Then bam, we get... THAT.
I don't think it's a huge grasp to look at it and start thinking they nerfed it to beyond stupid levels for the console players.

While not interested in the game personally, I'll be very interested to see what level of Battle.net support they include in the console version.

I know some people are disappointed by D3 for whatever reason, but I cannot believe that Blizzard will stop at anything to make D3 the best game it can be. It's just not in their history and I believe not even in their DNA to accept anything less than the best for their games and their customers.
(To clarify my earlier comment: I think announcing the game on PS3 is bad for Sony, not at all bad for Blizzard or D3 gamers.)

Only because the game is shit and shows signs of being shit because of future porting to console.
We're mad when a game is dumbed down, not because it came out on XXX platform when.

I'm curious to see if they'll introduce the always on DRM for the console single player portion like it's on the PC, it's why I didn't buy it in the first place.

This is just the same argument that people have been making since it came out, and its still stupid. Its just now they have a new donkey to pin the tail on. I
Not that I'm claiming D3 was great, it was certainly flawed, but its flaws weren't because of any perceived 'dumbing down' or consolization. Its insanity to think consoles would be their main focus to the degree where they would let it compromise the PC version, which is very obviously their lead platform (and has been for pretty much the last 15 years or more).

The Console wont, the game/s still can.
