High-Rez Studios has revealed plans to introduce a single purchase option for their highly regarded free-to-play first person shooter Tribes: Ascend (AusGamers 10/10), intending to launch it alongside a major content patch this Friday, February 15th PST (Saturday on our side of the date line).

A forum post from High-Rez co-founder Todd Harris explains that the one off purchase package will unlock "everything except the non gameplay affecting items like cosmetics", citing all classes, weapons, and perks in the current game, and an admission price "in the ballpark of other PC multiplayer shooters".

Harris also notes that Tribes VIP members will receive an additional discount, and that nothing will change with the free-to-play option for the game, assuring that all the additional maps in the content update will be freely available as per usual (thanks PCGamesN).

Do people even play this anymore?

Not when i tried a few weeks ago. Think i tried during the afternoon which obviously isnt peak hour but still, even COD4 has a few TDM servers running nearly 24/7.

There's still enough people for one server to be running all the time, but yeah basically it's dead. No new content from the devs and no community content killed it.

I can't play this because they completely disabled my account (I paid $40 to support this game) because I HAD THE NERVE to ask them to cancel my pre-order of Smite because it was unplayable due to latency...

So basically, f*** them and I hope they die (just like their game...)
