Previously scheduled to switch off this week, the multiplayer servers for the PC version of Halo 2 have had a stay of execution, according to a tweet from 343 Industries designer David Ellis (thanks Polygon):
Halo 2 PC support extended through June 2013 while we investigate further support options. Now go get those achievements.
We know it's pretty unlikely that those "further support options" might include an open dedicated server binary that would allow anyone to run their own Halo 2 PC online multiplayer server, but wouldn't that be nice?
