Early in the morning Nintendo broadcast their second Nintendo Direct for the New Year, and with it came a focus on Wii U. Among announcements of new titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD and Shin-Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, President of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, discussed features such as a mobile version of the Wii U's online social hub, Miiverse, and also two updates coming later this year to help speed up game launch times.

Iwata also went into detail about the upcoming Wii U Virtual Console that will be making its way to owners in Autumn, and will feature several NES and SNES titles on launch, with Game Boy Advance support later on. The virtual console is also touting save progress, the ability to play only on the GamePad and access to a Miiverse community for those eagerly awaiting the nostalgia trip. Iwata also ensured that those who had previously purchased a Wii virtual console title will be treated to a special price reduction on the Wii U virtual console.

The President of Nintendo also detailed several new titles coming to Wii U, including the aforementioned HD re-release of GameCube classic, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. Monolith Soft, the studio behind Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenosaga also debuted a gameplay trailer for a yet unknown title which you can see below. Gameplay trailers for Wonderful 101, Fire Emblem: Awakening and LEGO City: Undercover were also unveiled during the stream.

Check out the full list of trailers released below in their full HD, but you can also check out the full Nintendo Direct over here for more on what is to come for Nintendo's Wii U console this year.

Speaking of which, anyone know where the cheapest Wii U is? Can't decide one premium or regular and surprisingly ebgames (of all places) had the cheapest premium at $380 odd.

Pretty keen for Wind Waker HD. One of the best Zelda games ever.

Glynd, don't bother with the basic, go for the Premium. The 10% back on purchases on the eShop is worth it, imo (plus four times the storage).
