Adhesive Games has today revealed that their upcoming free-to-play Mech title Hawken has now moved into Open Beta phase after a few initial hiccups caused the launch to be delayed a few hours. The Open Beta phase is now allowing anyone eager enough to try their hand at the robotic shooter the chance to get a taste of what is to come, but also to help developers squash those bugs.
HAWKEN is a free-to-play, online, multiplayer, mech-based first-person shooter that puts you in the pilot seat of a giant robotic war machine.

Customize and upgrade your mechs the way you want, then join your friends on the battlefield to rain destruction across HAWKEN's beautiful and immersive alien landscapes.
You can find the Open Beta launch trailer below that shows off the robotised gameplay, and you can march your way to the signup page on the official website for the Open Beta.

I'll be keen to see if the feedback from the closed Beta has been addressed.

Anyone tried this out? I'm keen for something more in depth than the disappointing World of Tanks clone that is Mechwarrior Online.

You wont need that key anymore as it has moved to an OPEN beta.

Yep, played the alpha, then each of the closed betas. I really like it. Its quick enough to remind me of playing quake. I don’t necessarily get the impression of being in as huge machine but the game play is fun none the less. The environments are really good. Reminiscent of Blade Runner (gritty, dirty future)

the game is awesome, but they are still getting the modes of play sorted out.

couldn't disagree more about the 'impression of being in a huge machine' i find the sensation translated through the sound and visuals to make me feel EXACTLY like I'm crashing around in a 15ft tall combat mech.

Controls take a little getting used to but i found within a few hours i was getting to that very satisfied level of understanding.

It performs admirably.

Its Free.

Aussie servers.

if youre curious try it I think its great.

Really cool game - feels like what Mechwarrior always should have been. I've been in all the closed betas but only had a few games since they added Aussie servers.

fuckchops, this is a first-person shooter with mechs. That's about as "in-depth" as it goes, really.

Sucks that you can't choose your starting mech. Take 2-3 days of hard grinding in a shit mech to get another and if someone's higher level than you, chances are they'll top the scoreboards over the lower levels.

Might play it a little come live, but meh.
