Fuelled by the success of their iOS game Distant Star, Scottish indie developer Blazing Griffin purchased the IP rights to the popular source engine murder mystery game The Ship from failed fellow-Edinburgh studio Outerlight, and has now announced development of a sequel: The Ship: Full Steam Ahead.

An article over on CVG details the whole turbulent tale, which will lead to a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for The Ship 2 on October 31st, seeking to raise a minimum of US$200,000.
As these early concept images suggest, Full Steam Ahead is a steam-punk re-imagining of the original. It will feature a completely revised visual design along with rebuilt AI and new game modes, and will move the game's world away from its oceanic surroundings and instead set it miles up in the sky.

Yet the inherent core dynamic remains: A large group of players will be stuck together on a single ship, each one assigned the task of assassinating another in secret. It is a unique game of spy versus spy, of out-thinking opponents and institutionalised paranoia.
We'll likely know a lot more about the game in a couple of days once the Kickstarter pitch video is made publicly available.

Yeah I bought the standalone version too & that's a pretty good summary.
Hopefully they'll spice it up the longevity with different variations or something.

I thought #1 it was a cracker of a game, though perhaps that was just me enjoying getting the better of my paranoia slawing it up in game. I'd love to this remade in 10yrs with the tech available ;)

the whole 'you need to go take a piss/shit/sleep' aspect was pretty annoying for awhile, though I had a young baby at home when the Steam version came along so I found that aspect funny in a way. I can see how that would be lost on a lot of peeps... prolly a downside really.

someone once described it to be as 'The Sims' meets 'Quake'. I'd have to agree with that. I don't think they were too far off.

I can't imagine myself recommending this to women.. or admitting to one that enjoyed the game-play.

the game got a little easy as you gain alot of money if you kiled your attacker so what i would do is hide in the toilet who ever knew i was in there was the attacker so i would get my axe out and kill them plus there no cameras in the toilet :)
