Video Ezy Australian Online Store Selling PC and Console Games at Grey Import Prices

Australian video rental chain Video Ezy appears to have added videogames to their online retail catalogue, and rather astonishingly the prices are well below traditional Australian retail stores for both PC and console titles (Thanks Koopz for the tip, via: TOG Forums).

Over at videoezy.com.au/games right now, you can find new release games such as Dishonored on Xbox 360 for AU$51.16, and PC for AU$30.36, XCOM: Enemy Unknown on PS3 for $54.36 and PC for $33.56 (subject to shipping charges, which are presently free for orders over $60), and a raft of major upcoming titles available at discounted prices that rival most online CD-Key sites.

The Video Ezy site does not appear to mention the game disc's regional origins, but all game box-art displayed there features either PEGI or BBFC classification stickers, which implies grey imported distribution from the UK or Europe.

If the company is in fact grey importing, then some of the release dates for upcoming titles do seem suspiciously optimistic and should probably feature some kind of reasonable delivery time warning. But at those prices, it's hard to complain, and we hope they can keep it up.

Anyone pioneering their service let us know how your delivery times go.

Update; We've been informed that Video Ezy sister company WOWHD, also has a similar site with the same price points and distribution details, which is presumably just another outlet for the same stock.

I fear that the site may not be legit. Thief 4 is listed, yet it's been pushed to a next-gen console game and there hasn't been another word on it for years, so it seems doubtful that these guys have some shipping arrangement.

Looks to be just a pre-order like EB Games, however it seems to be legitimate according to some twitter posts on Video Ezy's page. Apparently delivery is between 3-5 working days once available, though I won't be complaining when I'm saving nearly $60 on Far Cry 3.

Hrm. It seems very suss (Chivalry for $16 when it's a new release at $25 on steam), but at that price for dishonoured maybe I should just grab it... (Honestly have only started really spending on games and not pirating them when at my broke'est, don't know what's wrong with me :P)

Not that I want to shit on Video Ezy's efforts, and its awesome to see more Australian retailers getting onboard, but tbh if I still have to order it from a website and wait 3 - 5 days for delivery, I'm likely to just order it from Ozgameshop instead, cos they have pretty much the same prices and I've used them before and they have a bigger range.

If I could walk into one of their stores though, and buy games on the spot for those prices, that'd be a whole different story, I'd be all over that shit.

JB usually have new release games quite cheap ($69) compared to EB games, and good old EB will price match so there is that.

It's not quite 50 bucks, but for the convenience of walking into a store and buying something, coupled with EBs 1 week no questions asked return policy, means that is how I prefer to buy my console games at the moment.

good on them for doing something to try and survive. was shocked to see an actual video ezy store somewhere the other day, was sure they had packed it in years ago- presumably from being sued after stealing the qgl logo.

blockbuster should attempt something similar if they plan on sticking around.

Far Cry 3/AC3 prices are great and I'm willing to buy Ubisoft again since they dropped their DRM. Can't say I expected Video Ezy to become relevant to my interests again. Also the prices are extra low atm because they have 20% off all games till Oct 29. Thx AG/Koopz for heads up.

I started buying games overseas when the currency reached parity with the US$ and we could start importing games at US prices. Now looking for the best deal on the web has become a matter of course, and Ive pushed so far under the US prices that even $50 for a game seems like a lot these days.

I would argue that the brick and mortar stores trying to stick with their over inflated pricing strategies has resulted in disaffected Australian gamers paying the lowest prices ever. I remember buying games as a kid in the '90s for $60-80 a throw, it astounds me to think that now I expect to pay about half of that for products that are far more expensive to produce. Viva la Revolucion!

Anyone remember what 2600 games used to go for when they got released?

Yea I gotta say getting Far Cry 3 and AC3 for $25 and $27 respectively does feel too low, but I'm not going to turn it down either. My limit is $50 for a AAA game, only time I have gone over that is when I wanted a game right away and bought it locally, maybe 2 times in the last 2-3 years.

I just bought a 55 inch Kogan screen for my bedroom to replace my old one.

I most certainly find any delivery date for any online shopping 'optimistic'.

although.. +1 for Coles. Here where I live they have a great service I never want to stop using

I remember them being about $20 - $30 each on average, maybe a bit more if it was a really high profile one, and I remember picking up a bunch of budget ones for about $10 each. So yeah, Max Payne 3 for about the cost of an Atari 2600 cartridge.

I remember paying close to (or even over) $100 for some mega drive games though, but I dunno if that reflected the price of them overseas or we were paying way more back then as well.

Virtua Racing was $200 when it came out on the Mega Drive. At the end of the console's life the Mega Drive was selling for $50 but I remember seeing Virtua Racing still selling for $200. Lucky it was a fucking top game at that price!

Anybody else received any notification of orders being shipped? Mine says awaiting stock, though I thought that it said in stock when I made the order. The address was also set to the ACT, which was weird, but I fixed it. Might be worth double checking to see if your address saved properly.

I got in contact with support via email due to having my address set wrong (thankfully did that before finding that I could update it online, because they said that updating it online won't change finalised orders). Thats a bit deceptive though isn't it, if they say 3 to 5 days, but really mean 3 to 5 days plus 2 to 3 weeks?

Maybe they just got way more traffic and orders than they were expecting and are snowed under, but I dunno, seems to be at least a little bit of a bait and switch.

But then CDWoW made me extremely wary of online retailers, after I ordered a few things from them that were listed as in stock, only to end up waiting a month for them because they weren't really in stock, so I guess that sort of thing just annoys me.

I never really counted on fast delivery anyway, just cheap prices, so I'm personally not too torn up. It might have been a bit misleading though (for all I know, by the time that I got around to paying for it they might have changed the ETA...).

I assume they only recently started this. It will take time for stock to get here and put it in a warehouse. New games arrival times are dictated by the fact they get them from the UK, they can't magically teleport them here to their warehouse. After a while they will have a bunch of stock on hand ready to send after processing.

When i used import I could get them in 4 days from the UK with UPS express shipping at an extra cost. Except gamers are either too eager and can't wait for their games so they buy retail or they'd rather wait and get the cheapest price.

I got dishonored. Unfortunately I don't really like it, characters are all boring and poorly written, and I didn't like city 17 the first time.

The rat plague/outsider/heart/whales/powers are sort of interesting though.

Pretty sure Steam have it, but I might wait to see what CJS/Green Man do. Definitely cancelling order though, if I pre-order a game and it instantly goes to back order there is no hope for a swift delivery.

I e-mailed them to find out the expected time for stock to arrive, they apparently have it now and are shipping them out, I have not had an e-mail saying that it's been dispatched yet.

Edit: Site says it has been dispatched (27th), no e-mail yet though. Check your orders on their site.
