As expected, GOG.com's chief announcement at their special event press conference this morning was the extension of Mac OS X support to their much-loved DRM-free videogame digital distribution platform, confirming that a raft of classic games, as well as new and upcoming titles can now be purchased by gamers of the Jobsian persuasion.
Users of Apple computers will receive the same simple service, ultra-fast downloads, great customer support, and, most importantly, best games in history. A total of 50 games is available right now, more than half of which are exclusively available from GOG.com. 8 games, such as Beneath a Steel Sky, Tyrian 2000, Ultima 4, and Warsow, are available for free, simply for signing up. Additionally, GOG.com is taking six of the best titles that they’re offering on both PC & Mac and putting them on sale in a Special Promo this weekend where gamers can pick up SimCity 2000, Little Big Adventure, Crusader: No Remorse, Postal: Classic and Uncut, Theme Hospital, and The Witcher Enhanced Edition, all available half off the full price, and all of the Mac games that GOG.com currently sells contain both the PC & Mac version of the game in one purchase.
Oh, and that teaser video GOG released a few days ago: turns out it was just the intro to a quirky Polish spoof of the iconic sterile Apple commercials, watch the full spot below.

this is good news!!

It's a little disappointing that I've gotta redownload anything I currently have so I can run it in MacOS tho.
Most of the really old stuff runs on Dosbox and its infuriating having to install it on PC, copy the contents of the folder and then transfer it to the Mac.

It's nice that they've at least considered MacOS installers, but yea. I'd almost prefer to see a 'container file' and then a set of separate 'Windows' and 'Mac' installation applets*.

I concede I may be the only one who'd prefer to see 'multiple file installers'... but yea, tedious that if I want to play the game on one platform or the other that I've gotta download/store it twice.

This is really good news. I'm waiting for the day Linux and OSX become standard releasing platforms.

Nice one GOG!

This is really good news. I'm waiting for the day Linux and OSX become standard releasing platforms.

It used to be just like that in the old days, the grumpy old buggers amongst us should remember checking whether the box had a ZX Spectrum, C64, Apple IIe, or IBM PC DOS sticker on it.

There's lots more developers jumping on the Linux & Mac bandwagon these days.
It's certainly making those other platforms even more viable for gaming interests.

Yes Fasty you are and while we are at it, in addition for C64 games was it tape or floppy disk? Not to mention could I run that PC DOS game on my 286, maybe it was only for those rich 486dx fellas. Also lol at $1000 for a 1x CDROM...and for actually owning one (albeit at a much cheaper price but still $$) >_>

Ah gaming nirvana back then.

Not a mac user so the news isn't particular relevant to my gaming needs, but releases across multiple PC platforms is a good thing, especially if we see Linux become more supported.
