Sigh, roll your eyes or get your e-toughness on the pump, but we're going to start offering up a bit of a community-driven piece of fun through the week, beginning with Meme Monday.

You might hate memes, but people also hated rock and roll once, so we might as well suck it up and live with the fact memes are a part of digital life. And what better way to enjoy them, by making or sharing them here. So with a bit of relevance to the here and now, what we'll do is propose a handful of gaming-related topics for you to get creative on, a couple of base memes to use and one heck of a green and gold platform (we're not Seth Efrican either, international community).

This week's meme topics:

The World of Warcraft Server Hack

Cliffy B Departs Epic
And here are a couple of images we think make for decent meme foundations - Steve's Son, Lanik -- Classic Fry -- Happy Dinosaurs.

Finally, if you're not a Photoshop user, you can always hit up any number of meme generators, but in the past this guy has always been good to me. Oh, and we might throw some swag in the direction of anyone who actually impresses us and everyone else.

FFS just because we introduce a community-driven initiative you don't agree with does not mean your precious site is being overrun or destroyed. The fact you can still bitch and whine among one another means we're still keeping your QGL dream alive.

It's just something we're trying out, and a bunch of people have had a crack at it, if it turns out to be a bust, it won't stick around. This isn't Kotaku or IGN, we're just toying with making the site more active with the expanded community we have now - form both QGL and AusGamers (and all those in between).

I'm mainly puzzled as to why there's was special day set aside, as if the internet needs a special reason and encouragement to post memes. If people want to be on reddit, why not just go to reddit?

Props for trying new stuff, but 'Post Funny Pictures Day' gives the impression the site's struggling for ideas Steve.

I don't know about anybody else but I didn't think it was being overrun or destroyed - I just thought the idea was pretty bad/lame/played out already. If you browse Reddit for 5 minutes the first 5 pages of the main site are full of stupid meme's. It turns everything into a pissing contest to make the best one to throw some text on the same picture/series of pictures over and over.

Personally for me I'd rather see AusGamers/QGL do some cooler (and more intellectual things). Competitions are always popular. I know there is certain law for the game of chance rule or whatever it is (you have to have 25 words or less, or something to that effect without a gaming license or something? I have no idea) but maybe integrate that instead of throwing up some stock images and going 'hay guys for the lulz here are some pics'

Instead of targeting the lowest common denominator (and we all know these are counter strike players) with silly meme's - why do you try to go for something a bit different? Just some random ideas...

- more comps (if possible, you need prizes I know) and please don't make them 'LIKE US ON FACEBOOK TO ENTER'
- Discussion topic of the week which encourages discussion regarding a polarising topic, yeah there will be trolls or whatever else but it's a start
- Social events? The Xmas drinks thread is up there right now showing we're all not reclusive teens who live in basements anymore. Hell I never thought in a million years the Mana Bar would take off. Maybe not limited to drinking but sport or something else - I'm down in Sydney now and play Indoor cricket with an old mate of mine from Brisbane, it takes effort but hey a suggestion. Movies/Sport/Drinking/Catch up/Shits and giggles - we don't LAN anymore but yeah.
- Cool product of the week/month/year. I've just bought myself a NAS a month ago and am stoked with it. Yeah away from gaming again but sort of related.

I have nfi to be honest, but yeah just some ideas..

I've been on and off QGL for over 10 years. Never came here for gaming, was introduced to it by a work colleague because of all the cool links, vids, news stories, Brisbane/QGL-centric content, etc. Have never attended a QGL event, tend to avoid most of the gaming-related threads and will often go weeks/months without posting a comment of any kind (but happy to lurk during that time).

I think most of the negative reaction stems from the fact that this kind of 'forced' concept is not QGL's style. I appreciate you guys are trying to mix it up and test out new things, and hope you continue to do so.

Cheers for the feedback Space Ninja, believe it or not, a lot of your suggestions are things we actually have in the pipeline and I agree with pretty much all you said. We're just capping off a few of the other simpler ideas we have (this Meme thing was the quickest and easiest to implement, for example).

Personally I actually like Memes, but the edgier more on-the-nose ones.

If you guys speak up and throw stuff that is constructive our way, we'll listen :)

I wouldn't worry too much Steve, trolls will be trolls - its always the same few. I don't browse reddit etc because I'm not really into most of the shit that is the internet these days, I don't think it hurts to try new things at all.

I applaud having a go.

Whatever works, idc. I just thought the pics posted were lame. Fry i know of but not the baby in bathtub or dinosaur and if we are talking memes then surely those of us who post will use meme pics that we know like success kid without needing suggestions.

Best IMO was rav's spider man, that one often makes me lol.

Ive always enjoyed the photoshops u guys have done, especially when its of something recently featured in media such as that bear falling from tree onto trampoline.

There's always gunna be complainers who should just avoid the thread and not make a big deal.

A better way to get community participation (since you offered some "swag") would be a photoshop competition, rather than just have people paste text on a random image.

Give people an image, not just some bedraggled koala either, and let them create art / hilarity. Or set a theme and let people pick their own image like celebrity face swap or celebrity gender bender (yeah it's been done but whatever).

I propose Post-Naked-Pictures-of-Your-Ex Monday, it'll be bound to bring in the punters.
