Maxis has today released a new gameplay trailer for their upcoming reboot into the construction simulator, SimCity, with lead designer Stone Librande helping players understand just what is different in the latest title.

The gameplay trailer focuses on showing Librande's casino styled city built from scratch, with a simple guide on how the UI works, how construction has changed since previous titles and how to properly manage a city bustling with virtual people. The trailer also showcases how construction has changed with simple tweaks and additions, including pipe networks no longer existing but instead going through roads or how ground pollution can make your citizens sick.

So make sure you check out the trailer below (HD here) for a good view on just how Maxis is changing up the formula we have come to expect, and also swing by our game page for a look at other trailers and news.

And for those complaining about the price, just grab a cheap key online. Dont like needing origin though.

That look good. Very much a jump back to the good parts of the original, and that the roads are your conduit for water/sewage/electricity is nice.

I don't like that the roads are a conduit for water and power... kinda ruins some of the strategic planning and makes it more noob

Anyone else playing Sim City Social? I need more people to leech land permits off, fuck paying money for diamonds and shit

I tried Sim City Social, but just can't get into most current gen facebook games. Out of developer curiosity, can I ask which parts you enjoy? (i.e. does it compare to normal desktop sim city games once you get beyond the tutorial? I don't mind energy systems pacing the game, but the gameplay seems to just be an endless explosion of mouse-hoover bonuses and whatnot).

I hated it at first as it was constantly asking for me to buy shit or promote the game to friends. I soon realised it wasn't really sim city and the "social" part of the name really was important to the design. I got into it more once a few people I was friends with started playing as well and you can exchange\gift required items to progress. Unlike some other freemium games I've played (tiny tower) you can still keep playing and progressing without forking out money to essentially play the game for you.

Underneath it the clicky coin explosions it has a stuble RPG element where you level up buildings to increase your income but no it doesn't compare to a real desktop sim city game and really isn't sim city in anything other than name (which was the initial draw card for me)

Yeah, I can see how the gifting between friends has been a great pull (and I think a fun one too) in these games, it really kept spartacus and the d&d game going for a while for me.
