The HD remake of the very infamous Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee has finally received a new trailer, this time showing off some of the mechanics that the platform style game has to offer.

In development by Just Add Water, the new game will be a full HD remake of the classic PlayStation game, including new characters, sounds and environments. The original game has been said to have been used as a blueprint for the HD remake, giving way to a new take on Abe's fun filled adventures.

You can check out the trailer below for a glimpse at the classic platformer that many have come to love, including the infamous GameSpeak ability. The game will be released in Autumn 2013 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, PC and Xbox 360.

Watching that reminded me of the old game Flashback. Man I clocked up some hours on that back on the Mega Drive.

Yeah it sounds like a mistake, though they changed it in Exodus I think, and I never got comfortable with that.

FYI, if you can dig up the data files you can play Flashback easily on a modern PC with REminiscence. It even lets you combine music, cutscene, and voice data from the different ports to make an ultimate version with all the best features.

Wow, the animations sure took a step backward. They should have just re-used the old assets and rendered them in realtime instead of sprites. The old animations were much better. Wish they had of kept the voices the same too.

Chances are the original 3D assets and master recordings weren't preserved, hence the need to redo everything.

I'd be pretty surprised if they didn't have the original assets.

I overlooked the part that said it's not Oddworld Inhabitants actually making the game though, so that's probably part of it.

Why? It's happened with other games like Final Fantasy VII and Silent Hill 2.

As I recall, somehow the source code for Thief 1 and 2 was lost.
