Earlier in the week we saw a very cryptic website appear on the Orange County-based studio Obsidian Entertainment, with the image of a Ouroboros and a number four on the page. Many fans believed the teaser could be an announcement for a rumoured Wheels of Time franchise, however today those rumours have been squashed.
Obsidian has revealed that the splash page was actually for their upcoming game Project Eternity
, which will be a Kickstarter funded isometric party-based RPG. The game will be set in a fantasy world that will pay homage to some of the classic RPG's like Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment.
Project Eternity aims to recapture the magic, imagination, depth, and nostalgia of classic RPGs that we enjoyed making - and playing. At Obsidian, we have the people responsible for many of those classic games and we want to bring those games back… and that’s why we’re here - we need your help to make it a reality!
Project Eternity will take the central hero, memorable companions and the epic exploration of Baldur’s Gate, add in the fun, intense combat and dungeon diving of Icewind Dale, and tie it all together with the emotional writing and mature thematic exploration of Planescape: Torment.
The Kickstarter page has a goal of $1.1 million however currently it has more than $602,000 in just under a few hours of going live. The end date will be in 32 days so if you feel like the world is missing some classic RPG's than head over to the Kickstarter page
for a heap more on the background of the game plus a list of the rewards for donating.
