![]() While there aren't any concrete plans to go out and be able to pre-order the Android based console tomorrow, Raines was quite enthusiastic about the product, and especially the idea of an open-source environment. "Here's the exciting thing that's happening: if you look at the power of the processor like the Tegra 3 or the x86 stuff that's coming on Windows tablets, you've got a processor now and graphics capability that are really exciting," he said.Raines was eager to point out in the interview with Joystiq that the new console would easily relate to the company's recent sales of the Android based Google Nexus 7 tablet, something they are eager to push out. The Ouya is currently under development and will be available sometime in 2013. You can check out their official website which also offers a chance to pre-order if you missed out initially.

This, that does that. Winner.
Otherwise... eh..
I like the general idea, concept behind something like this. But eh.. I have a phone, a tablet, a pc, old pcs doing nothing way more powerful than this. I don't see where it fits in. Besides it's cheap, so why not?
I don't get why no one's build a proper PC based type console. If nVidia went,' here's a console.' Shitload of memory, fast processor. The every year or two released a new video card for it. That was just a module. You unclip one. Clip in a new one. You didn't have to upgrade but you could.
How would that not be a winner? They'd corner the market from AMD. Upgrading is made simple and there for done more often. Benefits of a closed system like a PS3 or xBox. Cards essentially can work like quality settings. An awesome new game comes out with awesome graphics. Package it with the upgrade.
Anyway..

From a developer's point of view, you're removing one of the best things about developing for a console though, the fact that you don't have to worry about supporting different hardware configurations or differing levels of quality, textures, LOD, etc, etc. If you made it optional, I could guarantee you most developers would just ignore it and develop for the base model of the console that everybody has.
