Black Mesa Source Half-Life Remake Mod Gets a Partial Release Date

The Source Engine mod project to revamp the original Half-life in a modern sheen has been in development by it's volunteer crew for almost eight years, and now it finally has a release date; kind of.

The Black Mesa mod team has announced September 14th 2012 as the official release date for the game, but not quite the complete Half-Life experience. The initial release will include Black Mesa's remade Half-life levels up to Lamba Core, stopping short of the alien environments of Xen and the game's conclusion.

A countdown timer can be found over at the official site, currently with 11 days left on the clock.

How "remade" is it really? I've been watching some videos on youtube, and it still looks like the outdated game.
I read in youtube comments that the models/textures etc... are all still the same - so apart from the slower engine, I don't see the point, and I also don't see why it has taken so long to update half a game.
