Uber Entertainment, the studio known for the colourful shooter Monday Night Combat has reached out to Kickstarter for their next project, a large-scale robot-warfare RTS game they call Planetary Annihilation.

If the name and theme seems a little too close to the classic epic robot war RTS Total Annihilation, that's because the Uber team include two veterans of Cavedog Entertainment, and subsequently Gas Powered Games where they also worked on the first TA spiritual successor Supreme Commander.
Planetary Annihilation brings Real-Time Strategy to a new generation of gamers in a way they’ve never been seen before: Total Annihilation-inspired gameplay on a planetary scale.

We all know that the RTS genre has taken a hit. There just aren’t that many quality original RTS games coming out. If you love to play games like Total Annihilation your options are pretty limited. This is where Planetary Annihilation comes in. It is meant to be a truly innovative spin on what RTS games can and should be.
The pitch video includes a healthy amount of concept gameplay, with the big draw, as the name suggests, being the ability to wage battle on a planetary scale.

Whether the concept and heritage alone will be enough to raise the project's lofty goal of US$900,000 is tough to call, but if you want to aid the cause, head over to the kickstarter page and the game's official website.

nobody forgets TA:Kingdoms demon... it sank Cavedog pretty immediately when the 'hardware supported' engine died in the ass with direct x 3 or was it 4?

I'm not normally a fan of cartoony looks, but thought that this worked out ok. Has a sort of Populous 3 vibe going too, which is awesome.

I reckon it looks awesome, the planetary combat is totally unique as far as I can tell. As for the cartoony appearance - remember it is not even in alpha, so that could change. Although I don't mind it at all and I think it works for such large scale battles.

Also they win points for joking about dubstep.

I reckoned TA and SupCom were the greatest RTSs ever (SupCom 2 was a turd though).
Yeah I want PA to happen. Here's $15...

$40 from me.

How much money have we spent on Steam games that we have never installed people? Sign up to kickstarter and make these awesome projects happen.

(I also recommend checking out the Castle Story kickstarter)

TA is one of my favourite games of all time, I loved playing online where you could fight for galaxy domination as Arm or Core by which side one the most battles on particular planes (maps).

Maybe I should check out Supreme Commander, never played it.

If I want to relive TA glory days, should I play Spring TA? Which one is closet to the original TA but on that engine, XTA?

i like the idea but i dont like the cartoony feel of this one.. i loved TA and was an ARM guy but the old one just seems more mechanical than this one.. i dont know.

Yeah, sounds to me like they are trying to do TA/Boneyards from the get go properly this time. Couldn't resist the temptation to pledge for this one.

28 days to go and they're almost at $250K. I suspect there's enough people interested that this one will go ahead.

Remember when you had enough RAM to load the 128meg custom maps and have epic battles that would last hours.

balance annihilation with TA springs is the best. i find it better then original as its all more balanced (Brawlers dont own everything now) which is really fun!

Yeah, I'm still sticking to my cynical "bah humbug" view of this. I think its a stretch for them to claim TA lineage when all they have is some guys who made the engine and not the actual people who designed TA. Thats like making a game with some of the devs that worked on the Unreal Engine and claiming "From the makers of Bioshock Infinite!"

Still remember downloading about 100 new robots to use in the game. It got to the point where I destroyed the game and it wouldn't load anymore.

I don't mind the cartoony look, and the concept is awesome. It's a shame they don't have more of the original TA peeps.. especially the dude who did the sound track - that was epic.

Dark Reign was where it was at, till they fucked it by trying to get all 3D with Dark Reign II

Seriously,

Just do another game like C&C Generals: Zero Hour
Last strategy game I actually enjoyed.
