THQ gave AusGamers a chance to run our review of Darksiders II earlier than the rest of the world because, well, we loved it.

If you're a fan of the first game, action-RPGs, or single-player adventures, this is easily one of the year's best titles and cannot be overlooked. Death's journey to save his brother, War, is a tale worth diving into, and for the story-driven of you out there, we've once again served up a spoiler-free review that outlines more about what the game offers, than what's written within its walls. There might be a lot of information about to spill over in the gaming world from GamesCom, but before you settle in for that, be sure to read our review and pick up Darksiders II for yourself when it releases this week.

Is that anything new? They always are.

Been playing this today, apart from it being a blatant port the game is awesome.
for some reason I was under the assumption Vigil were adding some pc goodness, not just porting it straight up, so if you can treat it as if your playing an xbox game on your monitor, you'll enjoy it.

Massive improvement over the first in almost every way.

0 graphics options for PC. Seriously, even vsync doesn't work and according to some the resolution you set may just reset itself when you open the game up again. Doubt this game would of gotten such a high score if reviewed on PC.

This is of course leaving out the huge list of bugs people are having like mass CTDs, lag, mouse issues, graphical bugs and so on.

EDIT - I can't even change the resolution. It just stays at 1280x720 or whatever it is.

Fuck thats a bad port. Not the worst by any means but dont they test shit before they release it? How could they lot let you change resolution - thats the first thing i change before anything else.

And the way you change controls is just fucking stupid. No menu when you hit escape you have to hit O ingame, change to the controller icon, then go to the section you want and change there. Oh and when you go into the ingame menu it looks like the resolution gets set to like 800x600 and everything is horribly low res.

The fun factor is high and the voice acting is great, but my god... worst port i've ever played, and that's saying something. All this can be fixed with a patch though so we'll see what happens. I just hope they get moving on this because I really enjoyed DS1.

Hmmm, worst port? Im thinking GTA4 and the shit graphics/resolution that required custom exe launch parameters to alter RAM and GPU memory to get it to run properly.

Yeah it is an average port there's no two ways about it. Really do wish I picked it up on PS3 but meh.

Like I said, if you can look past the terrible porting the game itself is one of the best sp experiences I've had in a long time.

Theres something you can put into the launch properties for it on steam to force it to load in the res you want, can't remember exactly what it is and fucked if I can find it on google again.

also, this was posted up on the steam forums.

During the Community Summit both Jay Fitzloff and I (Mathew Everett) were under the impression that full .config files and final keyboard/mouse and controller hookups were going to work as promised when the PC version of the game launched. That was the plan at the time from a specifications perspective.

Unfortunately, especially at the end of the development cycle, sometimes things change at the last minute, and this was one of them. This puts us in an uncomfortable spot as we were acting on the best information we had at the time, and it has turned out not to be in the final game (at this point).

Since it was always the intention to implement these features, as I type this, the development team is checking to see what items can get added into the game. While I can’t promise what can be done, I can promise we are working with the proper teams and have expressed the importance of including them in a patch.

For attendees of the community event who reported the information that everyone thought was true at the time: our apologies. We did not mean to put you in a position of putting facts out there that would prove to be inaccurate: you are our partners (and our friends). Please link this post to your sites so that your fans know the error was not intentional on anyone’s part and we are doing everything we can to address it. We will circle back when we have more information. And, once again, our sincerest apologies to both attendees to the Community Summit, and their fanbase for the mistake on our part.

I don't get what that all means but at least they've acknowledged the pc version is balls.

There was some official post about them running out of time to add in all those PC "extras" such as being able to change resolution and having vsyc work... you know all those fancy things. They are "looking into" what they can add for PC through a patch which means we could get fuck all. And they wonder why people pirate shit. Honestly.

Great game but its true whats been said about it feeling like a console port.

Yeah, I'm not usually one to complain about console ports, but this one is sucking it pretty hard for me. I'm having to play it on my laptop at the moment, because the mobo in my desktop died. My laptop isn't amazing, but it's good enough to run Darksiders 2 at like 30-50 fps at 1920x1080, but despite that, it appears that the framerate is sitting at less than 20. I bring up the FPS display, and it's sitting somewhere acceptable, but it's constantly stuttering and skipping frames. I've looked online and I'm not the only one with the issue, but none of the provided solutions have worked. Really, really frustrating.

I had been thinking about buying the game, but after watching some in game video i decided ill wait till they release a high rez texture pack and fix the menues/controls.
