GamesOnNet (thanks
VG247) reports that Sony Online President John Smedley has recently confirmed on Twitter that SOE's upcoming free-to-play MMOFPS Planetside 2 will be getting an Australian server.
Smedley's message "Honestly we are just going to bite the bullet and put a server down there" came as a reply to a Twitter follower that was intending on conducting a survey to demonstrate demand for an Australian Planetside 2 server, and the wording of his comment suggests that it will actually be physically hosted down under.
Low latency will undoubtedly make for a better game experience for Aussie players in the game which promises large-scale open-world infantry and vehicle battles with up to 2000 players. Whether the local population can gather the numbers required for such scale remains to be seen, but it's nice to see Sony giving it a shot.
