Valve has today announced that their leading digital store, Steam, will be offering a range of "software" products alongside the large list of games. While we don't actually know what is coming to the digital store, the expansion will no doubt help many developers broaden their customer base.
The Software titles coming to Steam range from creativity to productivity. Many of the launch titles will take advantage of popular Steamworks features, such as easy installation, automatic updating, and the ability to save your work to your personal Steam Cloud space so your files may travel with you.

"The 40 million gamers frequenting Steam are interested in more than playing games," said Mark Richardson at Valve. "They have told us they would like to have more of their software on Steam, so this expansion is in response to those customer requests."
While a few may be wary of so many eggs in one basket, the simplicity and broad audience that Steam offers to developers and customers alike is something many would be willing to jump at given the chance. Valve has also said that more software titles can be expected after the initial release, with developers being given the chance to submit their products via Steam Greenlight when that goes live.

It would be cool if there was something like Fraps that ran automatically (if you want it to) when you load a game.

Why do people have a problem with the Windows 8 app store, but not with the Mac App Store or iTunes Store?

There's still always that whole down side of one user for the programs. Sure people can share accounts. However for a lot of people who share a computer. They'd like to just buy the software and anyone on that computer can have access with out being logged into someone elses account.

This is especially an issue if things aren't cheap.
Productivity Software.

If I buy office everyone on my computer can use it freely.

Just make steam automatically log in when your computer starts up, then everyone on your computer can still use it freely.
