Valve have announced that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is now available on the Steam store for pre-order at a special price of USD$13.49 USD:
All players who pre-purchase on Steam receive a 10% discount and gain early access to the beta on August 14th.

CS: GO expands on the classic team-based action gameplay that Counter-Strike pioneered.Featuring an arsenal of over 45 weapons, loads of maps, new game modes, new visuals, leaderboards and over 165 Steam Achievements.
Because Valve are not total douchebags, this is the same price as our gaming brethren in the USA pay as well. Take note, publishers - one game, one price!

This discounted offer lasts until August 22nd. Valve PR also notes that Counter-Strike: Source is on sale (USD$6.80), along with the original (USD$3.40).

oh you can actually buy the old counter strike and condition zero on there too!?! I might have to get that because with CS:GO you get a bit sick of playing the same 4 maps all the time.

at least it's better than source, which seems to only have dust and office.

some of my favourite maps: prodigy, militia, mansion/estate, assault, oilrig, siege, backalley, 747, cbble, vegas, vertigo

So I'm hoping they pull their finger out for the full release because there is no reason these maps should die off. Some of them like mansion and 747 will need some serious reimagining to bring them in line with the quality of a contemporary game.

I miss when it was full rotation, CS maps and DE map servers...but then again, some dickhead would start a vote for dust and it would change.
Nuke, Militia, Siege, Italy and Piranesi were my favourites. VIP were great as well.

Is this a full game?
Or do I need to reinstall my CS:S?

You know what sucks about CS:GO, glynd, any dickhead can call a vote. They can vote on banning a player, changing maps, restarting, scrambling teams. And if it fails - they can call the vote again. Depending on the mix of people you have a lot of irritating things can happen. Sometimes someone will join a game, immediately call a vote to change the level to one that was just played, and then they'll quit and never actually play that level.
My first experience with CS:GO is that I joined my first game and was immediately voted off after 1 round. It really sours your experience. Then I couldn't join any game at all - I hadn't found the server browser yet, and the automatic game finder thing just kept trying to make me join the game I was banned from.
I've seen other people get voted off for no reason. I always vote against kicking players, there is always going to be some whinger that thinks some headshot was bs and wants to kick the player.
I've had experiences in the game where a full game was never played because people keep voting for new maps after a couple rounds.
Giving counter-strike players the power to decide stuff...hmm... I don't know what servers Valve employees play on, but they are obviously sheltered from the childishness of the general counter-strike community.

I'm always seeing in the media how well self-moderated communities like YouTube operate, but it's a load of bullshit. People play games and up-vote the retarded or offensive comments, and mark the legitimate comments as spam.

Damn straight.

I don't get all the hate from people about this, sure it might not be all you thought it could be but it's $15 ffs. That's like 3 beers.

I hated all that callvote shit in rocket arena 3, same map over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over on the "full map rotation" server. Piss off to the ra3map1 server if that's all you want to play.

Might nab cs:go in any case since it's cheap and I'm sure there will be some admins with brains who disable callvote.

I've never paid for CS in the past (no I didn't pirate it) it was a mod at first and always was free. I feel dirty paying for CS.

hmmm

I'll probably buy it anyway

i dont mind in the slightest paying $14... if that means the money goes towards getting an updated source engine with new cs and tf

Yeah I always right click to put my silencers on and then I remember :(

I've also never paid for CS strangely enough, although I've had several legit copies over the years, it always just came with something else (orange box, gfx card, etc).

I also remember when garry's mod was free, and some weird tech demo that I figure became portals. You could shoot portals at walls & walk through but that was all there was to it, no actual goals other than to make others fall through into outer space I guess.

^Narbacular Drop. It was a game some students did, and then valve hired them to create a full game of it (portal)

I was hoping they'd make the gameplay like 1.3 :)

That's probably the most balanced CS. And I'm sure people will debate me for that.
