In an interview with AusGamers, Resident Evil 6 executive producer, Kobayashi-san, said that despite the publisher handing over development duties of key franchises like Lost Planet, Dead Rising and Devil May Cry, official major entries in the Resident Evil series (read: numbered iterations), would only ever be handled by the Japanese studio.

"We don’t really see that happening right now," he told us. "Especially if we’re talking about the numbered iterations of the franchise, I think it’s something that Capcom here in Japan can only make."
