It seems nothing can be kept secret in today's digital world, with leaked photos of what could be Sony's next PlayStation 3 revision appearing on Brazilian website Techblog.

While it isn't certain whether these are legitimate or not, the very defined looking style that we have grown use to since the PlayStation 3 first came about is apparent, albeit in a more slimmed down look. Accompanying the bizarre design is a spec sheet with what seems to be a 16Gb model, a 250GB model and a large 500GB model. Also stated on the sheet is that all three models are identical except for their hard drives, fuelling rumours of a cheaper, slimmer model for sale.

Check out the screenshots below for a closer look at the intriguing design of what may just be the next PlayStation 3 model. All credit goes to Techblog.

Last attempt to squeeze some pennies out of the comsumers?

As a PC player can consoles please stop being so out of date and crap. It's crippling the industry.

When the biggest game franchise is still running on a game engine derived on one that came out in 1999. Something is really wrong.

BTW that's COD. It's just a version of the Quake 3 engine that has been progressively updated over the years.

As long as people keep buying games like COD, and they are in massive amounts, theres no reason for them to update the hardware.
I think we need better gameplay & innovation than graphics at the moment anyway.. COD another example of having very generic gameplay.

I like it how the photos are a bit grainy and out of focus like they were taking photos of Bigfoot.

Well since Sony bought a cloud based gaming service they could conceivably circumvent the need for the latest and greatest hardware to get the most out of the latest games.

COD is shit because of the people who make COD, can't really blame consoles for that one.

But yeah, it'd be nice to see more games coming out using the full range of graphical wizardry available to them, especially after seeing demos for stuff like Unreal Engine 4. This console generation feels like its being dragged out for too long.

Lol, you guys really do understand how the game industry works. Yea, let's make games with ridiculous graphics just to limit our player market. Herp-a-Derp

If the game is good enough it will force people to upgrade equalling more cash. Also games have scalable graphics. You can release a game with awesome visuals and have sliders to make it run on any system. No-one would be excluded.

Yes because the high-quality, down-scalable graphics ability of BF3 really hurt its sales.

(and yes, "herp-derp" is the exact image I had of you bashing your keyboard to form words)

The only time the game industry has forced me to upgrade me computer is when next generation consoles are released. People don't have an amazing amount of cash just to spend on getting a good computer just to run games. I'm sorry, but that is a childish imagination of money growing on tress.

There is this thing called a budget, each game has a set amount of money that it can put into a game. The people building the game must works on a polygon budget. This only increases when the appropriate amount of funding is increased to allow people to be paid for the amount of time they put into the game. Each game has a set amount of time before it must be published before the company goes bankrupt. I know business economics is a scary thing for you to understand, but this is how big companies work.

I understand that the quality of graphics rely on the talent and amount of time the artists put in, but the point you were trying to make is that developers don't bother with nice visuals because it would exclude people with old hardware which isn't true at all. Nice attempt to move those goal posts though.

What does this have to do with good graphics "limiting your player market"?

Yes, because all game companies have gone bankrupt when their release dates have slipped.

Exactly this.

Games like Day-Z, Minecraft, et al. are doing that. Which is fantastic.

Totes agree with importance of innovation. Game can have terrible graphics but still be awesome if it's a new and unique idea executed well.

It's worth nothing that the UE4 is nothing Cryengine hasn't been doing for a few years. They apparently already have their next version capable of more coming along soon.

That's how out of date everything is. How slowed down the development process is.

I reserve the right to bash consoles. Apparently the next gen consoles will have a 10 year planned life cycle......thats not going to make shit worse at all........
